Commanders Looking to Stockpile Picks
According to ESPN NFL analyst Field Yates, the Redskins are among the clubs most likely to make a first-round deal in the 2025 NFL draft.
“Washington Commanders. General manager Adam Peters has resourcefully added to his roster through trades this offseason, landing Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel Sr. for modest draft pick compensation,” Yates wrote. “The Commanders are down to only five picks and are in the sweet spot — No. 29 overall — where a team slotted early in Round 2 could want to move up for a coveted prospect and the fifth-year option that comes with all first-round contracts. If the Giants or Browns do not take a quarterback early in Round 1, could they give Peters a call?”
Super Bowl LX Odds
Currently, the Washington Commanders odds to win Super Bowl LX are +1800, which is the highest it’s been in years. From where they finished the 2024 season, the Washington Commanders are hoping to advance further in 2025.
The Commanders have been active this summer following a surprising run to the NFC title game. Though Washington might keep veteran star linebacker Bobby Wagner as well, Deebo Samuel was a major acquisition for the team.
Other moves the Commanders made this offseason include signing defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw, re-signing tight end Zach Ertz, trading for offensive tackle Laremy Tunsil, bringing back quarterback Marcus Mariota, signing cornerback Jonathan Jones, signing defensive end Deatrich Wise, and adding wide receiver Mike Gallup.
Second Year Regression?
The Washington Commanders’ first year with rookie quarterback Jayden Daniels was nearly as good as it got. After an impressive 12-win season, two playoff triumphs, and an appearance in the NFC Championship game, many are optimistic about the Commanders’ potential in Year 2 under Daniels.
The path to NFL greatness isn’t straight, as we witnessed with C.J. Stroud from the Houston Texans last season. The squad nonetheless managed to win ten games and qualify for the playoffs, even though Stroud retreated. However, the latest NFL news from one NFL executive, who spoke with The Athletic’s Mike Sando, is that they fear that Daniels and the Commanders will go backward in 2025.
“I’m afraid that is the team that is going to have the quarterback hit the sophomore slump,” the executive said. “And now you have invested in all these older guys, and you are not really building a team anymore, you are just adding pieces…At some point, you get diminishing returns with all those old guys.”

- Jeremy McNichols, RB – The Commanders are returning the veteran on a one-year deal.
- Will Harris, S – Harris, who played primarily cornerback for the Saints in 2024, comes to Washington on a two-year deal.
- Javon Kinlaw, DT – The former San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets lineman is joining Washington on a three-year deal worth $45 million, with $30 million guaranteed.
- Bobby Wagner, LB – Wagner is returning to the Commanders on a one-year deal.
- Zach Ertz, TE – Ertz is returning to Washington on a one-year deal.
- John Bates, TE – Bates is returning to the Commanders on a three-year deal.
- Noah Brown, WR – Brown is returning to the team on a one-year deal.
- Clelin Ferrell, DE – Ferrell returns to Washington on a one-year deal.
