NFL Picks Week 6
Last week, we introduced Gridiron Experts’ new betting model, Outplay. We were reluctant to roll it out, since it had only a few weeks of 2026 data, but the results were excellent. We shared the picks and predictions with our team; some said they would check it out, while others, like James Bryer, who had been frustrated with his start to the season, dove right in.
- James went 13-2 against the spread last week.
- Week 6 Thursday Night Football Player Props 6-1 (should have been 7-0 with a stat correction)

How OutPlay Picks Games: A Two-Sided Coin
Every point spread has two stories. One is told by history: what usually happens to teams in this kind of spot. The other is told by the matchup: what should happen when these two teams line up on Sunday. Outplay reads both, and it only gets loud when they agree.
Side one: Trends
The trends side learns from NFL games going back to 2018. A statistical model tests which factors have predicted covering the spread, such as team strength, recent form, rest, home field, and how the line compares to what the numbers say. It isn’t a list of hand-picked “this team is 7-1 in this spot” angles. Each factor is weighted by how much it has mattered in past results. The output is a pick against the spread and a 1-to-5 star rating for how strongly history leans that way.
Side two: Matchups
The matchup side looks only at this week’s game. Outplay rates every offense and defense by efficiency per play, then adjusts for who is actually on the field: injuries, starter changes, and the trenches, where pass protection meets pass rush. It asks how this offense will do against this defense, projects a margin, and compares it to the spread. That produces its own pick and its own 1-to-5 stars.
Where the coin lands
Trends alone can be stale, because a pattern that held for years may not fit this roster. Matchups alone can overreact to a few games of data. Each side covers the other’s blind spot.
When both sides pick the same team and both rate the game at three stars or higher, that’s an agreement pick. These are the games Outplay puts forward as its top plays. When the two sides split, or only one is confident, we pass. Skipping a game is part of the method.
Lines move, and players get hurt, so Outplay reruns through the week as injury reports, depth charts, and inactives come in. The final check comes close to kickoff. Once a game starts, its pick is locked, so what you see is what we called before the game.
Week 6 Best Bets
Jaguars -2.5
Matchup: Texans at Jaguars in London
Confidence Score: ⭐⭐⭐
The first is Jacksonville -2.5 against Houston. Jacksonville plays its last game before a bye, a spot where teams have covered more often than the market expects. The Jaguars also lead the efficiency numbers, with a net success rate of +6.6 points to Houston’s +2.2. Houston’s run game looks scarier on paper, but the market tends to overpay for a strong rushing attack against a soft run defense. Outplay’s ratings make Jacksonville about two points better than the line says.
Bucs +2.5
Matchup: Steelers at Buccaneers
Confidence Score: ⭐⭐⭐
The second is Tampa Bay +2.5 at home against Pittsburgh. Baker Mayfield is out with a dislocated thumb, and Jalon Daniels starts. The line already reflects that, and the model still likes the Bucs. Pittsburgh has a 3-2 record against the spread, while Tampa sits at 1-3, and the market tends to overreact to hot and cold starts. Tampa also grades slightly ahead on success rate. I’d still pick Pittsburgh to win straight up, so the +2.5 is the better price.
