[the_ad id=”105842″]Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker III could see an increased workload in Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints as teammate Zach Charbonnet deals with a foot injury.
Charbonnet was listed as a non-participant on Seattle’s Wednesday injury report. The second-year running back missed practice, putting his availability for Sunday in question. Head coach Mike Macdonald said the team will continue to monitor Charbonnet’s progress through the week.
Walker enters the matchup healthy and in line for lead duties if Charbonnet remains limited. In Week 2, Walker carried the ball 13 times for 105 yards and one touchdown in Seattle’s 31-17 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. Charbonnet received 15 rushing attempts in the same contest but was held to minimal yardage.
The Seahawks’ rushing depth chart lists Walker as the primary ball carrier, with Charbonnet as the main complement. Behind them, the team has DeeJay Dallas and Kenny McIntosh available, though both have seen limited usage in the opening weeks of the season. If Charbonnet cannot play, Walker would be expected to take the bulk of the snaps, with Dallas and McIntosh providing depth.
Seattle will host New Orleans at Lumen Field on Sunday. The Saints enter the game with a 1-1 record through two weeks. Their defense ranks in the middle of the league in rushing yards allowed per game, creating a matchup where Seattle’s run game could be a key factor.
Macdonald emphasized earlier in the week that practice participation leading up to game day will be decisive. Charbonnet’s foot injury is not considered season-ending, but the team will wait until later in the week to determine his game status. The Seahawks are looking to build on momentum from their Week 2 win, which evened their record at 1-1. A stronger rushing attack led by Walker could help maintain balance against a Saints defense that has pressured quarterbacks effectively through the opening weeks.
The final decision on Charbonnet’s availability will likely be made following Friday’s practice and medical evaluation. Until then, Walker is preparing as the primary back and could be featured heavily in the offensive game plan.
