Dallas Goedert to Miss Time With Injury
Philadelphia Eagles tight end Dallas Goedert was scheduled for an MRI on his right knee Monday after leaving Sunday’s 24-20 win over the Tennessee Titans, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The results and a diagnosis have not been made public.
Goedert was hurt midway through the second quarter while run blocking. The Eagles listed him as questionable to return, and he did not re-enter the game. He finished with one catch for 4 yards on two targets. Rapoport said the MRI would determine the severity of the injury. “Generally, that means players end up missing time,” he said.
Philadelphia improved to 2-0. Quarterback Jalen Hurts completed 26 of 37 passes for 264 yards and two touchdowns. He threw two interceptions. Hurts found wide receiver Darius Cooper for the game-winning touchdown with nine seconds left. Running back Saquon Barkley also left with a stinger early in the game. He returned for the second half. Rapoport said the injury did not sound major.
Goedert opened the season with four catches for 77 yards and two touchdowns against Washington. He has five catches for 81 yards and two scores through two games.
The Eagles’ tight end room is thin. Johnny Mundt caught two passes for 8 yards on three targets against Tennessee and played roughly 64 percent of the offensive snaps. E.J. Jenkins was not targeted. Josiah Deguara signed to the practice squad on Sept. 15 after the New York Giants released him. Grant Calcaterra is on injured reserve.
Veteran tight end Zach Ertz is a free agent. He has said he is open to a return to Philadelphia while he works back from a torn ACL. Reports have linked him to the Eagles, but no signing has been announced.
If Goedert cannot play, Mundt and Jenkins are the tight ends on the active roster, but they won’t likely help much in the passing game. My guess is the Eagles bring back Zach Ertz.
