Waiver Wire Pickups: Week 13

Week 13 Waiver Wire Pickups

Week 13 Waiver Wire PickupsLucky Week 13 is finally here! With the playoffs coming up next week in many formats, this is a huge week in the waiver wire. Whether you are in a must-win mode to make the playoffs or are looking to acquire players that will set you up for playoff success, you have arrived at the right place.

Hopefully, you read last week’s article that featured Samaje Perine, Ricky Seals-Jones, and Tyler Kroft who all had nice fantasy performances.

Key Tips:

  • Pick up a second defense. I do not usually feature defenses in these articles, but it important for the playoffs that you have options at defense that you can stream. Take advantage and grab the defenses before the good matchups. They are listed at the bottom of the article.
  • Dump the depth. Be real with yourself and if you have a running back that is your fourth or fifth at the position drop them for a second quarterback who you can play in the right matchup.

Coming in hot your waiver wire pickups for Week 13!

Week 13 Waiver Wire Quarterbacks

Jimmy Garoppolo

Quarterback | SF

  • ESPN: Less than 7% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 8% owned

In barely one minute of the 49ers-Seahawks game, Garoppolo was able to lead the 49ers to a touchdown. This was something starting quarterback C.J. Beathard failed to accomplish through 59 minutes of the game. If Beathard is forced to miss more time with his injury, Garoppolo is a very nice streaming option in Week 13 versus the Chicago Bears. The Bears over the last two weeks have allowed an average of 21.15 fantasy points to the QB.

Josh McCown

Quarterback | NYJ

  • ESPN: Less than 33% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 31% owned

Man, I just love me some Josh McCown. After coming off a few less than stellar games, McCown came out firing against the Panthers for his highest fantasy point total of the season. McCown has now hit at least 16 fantasy points in his last five of six games. With a low ownership percentage, McCown is a great pickup with a nice schedule ahead of him against Kansas City, Denver, and New Orleans. Kansas City has allowed the ninth most fantasy points to the QB position this season, and New Orleans and Denver have allowed at least two passing TDs over the last two weeks.

Case Keenum

Quarterback | MIN

  • ESPN: Less than 37% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 46% owned

Who’s on the case? Keenum is! Case Keenum has put the Teddy Bridgewater truthers to rest averaging 21.5 fantasy points over the last four weeks. The Minnesota Vikings are red-hot right now so you need to grab their quarterback ASAP. His Week 13 matchup against the Falcons is solid. They have allowed 19.64 fantasy points on average to the QB over the last four weeks.

Aaron Rodgers

Quarterback | GB

  • ESPN: Less than 38% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 59% owned

Aaron Rodgers was on the list last week and remains for this week. He is still on track for a Week 15 return for Green Bay, so there is a chance for some fantasy playoff potential for him. Interestingly enough, Brett Hundley has been playing better, so there is a chance that Green Bay still may be fighting for a playoff spot by the time Rodgers comes back. Week 15 will be against Minnesota, the team that knocked Rodgers out earlier in the year, so Rodgers could be extremely motivated to play.

Week 13 Waiver Wire Running Backs

Alfred Blue

Running Back | HOU

  • ESPN: Less than 1% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 1% owned

Lamar Miller suffered a knee injury Monday night versus the Baltimore Ravens and it looks like he could miss some time. With D’Onta Foreman already on injured reserve, the Texans would have to turn to Alfred Blue as their bell-cow running back for the rest of the season. Blue has played well in the past when given the workload, so he is a definite add this week from a volume standpoint. His schedule is not great, but he does have a fantasy playoff game versus the San Franciso 49ers in Week 14 where he could put up solid numbers. The 49ers allow the most points to the RB position.

Devontae Booker

Running Back | DEN

  • ESPN: Less than 26% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 34% owned

C.J. Anderson…you’re dead to me. Time to roll with Booker. Yes, Booker did struggle last week against the Raiders as the rest of the Denver backfield did, but it is important to note his usage. He led the team in touches and snaps so it seems like he is the volume back moving forward. His upcoming schedule is also great as he has upcoming dates with the Dolphins, Jets, Colts, and Redskins. Three out of those four teams rank in the top 15 in terms of fantasy points allowed to the RB position.

Rex Burkhead

Running Back | NE

  • ESPN: Less than 43% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 50% owned

Similarly to Booker, Burkhead also has a great schedule moving forward for fantasy. Buffalo has been shredded by RBs not named Kareem Hunt, and Burkhead will face them twice in the next four weeks. Burkhead seems to have taken on the pass-catching role over James White who has four receptions over the last three games. In PPR formats Burkhead is a nice addition.

Peyton Barber

Running Back | TB

  • ESPN: Less than 1% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 1% owned

Doug Martin was ineffective once again and is now in the concussion protocol. Meanwhile, Barber was able to do what Martin has not done since the first week he played…score! Barber scored twice in Week 12 and if he is giving the starting job, he could be a solid volume play. His next two games are also very good matchups against the Green Bay Packers and Detriot Lions who have defenses that rank in the top ten in terms of most fantasy points allowed to the RB position.

Week 13 Waiver Wire Wide Receivers

Zay Jones

Wide Receiver |BUF

  • ESPN: Less than 11% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 14% owned

Aside from Zay Jones’ superhuman toe abilities, he has a lot going for him entering the final stretch of the season. A great schedule coming up for Zay Jones along with the volume that he is getting make him a solid addition this week. He is the team leader in targets and has put up double-digit fantasy points in three straight games. In Week 13, he takes on the Patriots who have been better on defense but still can give up plenty of garbage points to Jones if the game gets out of hand.

Josh Reynolds

Wide Receiver |LAR

  • ESPN: Less than 1% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 1% owned

With Robert Woods sidelined, Josh Reynolds saw a major uptick in playing time. For Week 13, Reynolds could be a very interesting sleeper play because of the matchup versus the Cardinals. With Patrick Peterson locking down Sammy Watkins, Cooper Kupp and Reynolds could definitely see tons of targets.

Dede Westbrook

Wide Receiver | JAX

  • ESPN: Less than 9% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 25%owned

Westbrook has seen 16 targets over his last two games, so it is safe to say with Allen Hurns sidelined Westbrook is the second receiver behind Marqise Lee. Westbrook has big-play ability and has a schedule that caters to an explosion coming. The Colts, Seahawks, Texans, and 49ers are all matchups that can be exploited by Westbrook. Three of those four teams rank in the top 12 in terms of fantasy points allowed to the WR.

Josh Gordon

Wide Receiver | CLE

  • ESPN: Less than 35% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 52%owned

Josh GordonAfter a few seasons lost to suspension, Flash Gordon finally returns in Week 13 for the Browns. The Browns have already been mathematically eliminated from playoff contention, so the Browns need to see what they have in Gordon for the rest of the season. For fantasy players, I think it is much too risky to play him this week especially if you need a win to get into the playoffs. But he is worth a stash if your roster has room.

Week 13 Waiver Wire Tight Ends

Charles Clay

Tight End | BUF

  • ESPN: Less than 48% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 32% owned

Charles Clay needs to be added to your roster if you need a TE. Kelvin Benjamin does not look like he will be coming back anytime soon, so add Clay while he can absorb the most targets. In Week 12, despite the tough matchup versus the Chiefs, Clay had four receptions for 60 yards. Not great, but for TE standards more than acceptable. Clay is Taylor’s favorite target, and with him back under center, I expect Clay to get targets. Clay’s schedule upcoming is also great for fantasy. His Week 13-16 matchups are all against teams that rank in the bottom half of points allowed to the TE.

Ricky Seals-Jones

Tight End | ARI

  • ESPN: Less than 2% owned
  • Yahoo: Less than 3% owned

Did he catch another TD? Yep, you guessed, Seals-Jones scored another touchdown for Arizona in their win over the Jacksonville Jaguars. It appears that Week 12 was not such a fluke. Gabbert heavily targeted him again with six targets. That was second most on the team. With a solid amount of targets and some bomb matchups Weeks 15 and 16 against the Redskins and Giants respectively, what is not to love about this guy!?
