Vikings Reshape Offense for 2024

Justin Jefferson

Former Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kirk Cousins will be suiting up for the Atlanta Falcons this season, but the acquisition wasn’t cheap. According to NFL Media, Cousins and the Falcons agreed to a four-year, $180 million contract, including a $50 million signing bonus. The Vikings had the Cap space to make a deal happen with Cousins, but some believe the team felt it was time for a change.

Kevin O’Connell is entering his third year as the Vikings’ Head Coach. After an impressive 13-4 season in 2022, the injury bug hit the Vikings squad, resulting in a 7-10 season last year. With the loss of Kirk Cousins, the team will likely target a quarterback in the first round of the NFL Draft. Many Mock Drafts have linked J.J. McCarthy from Michigan to the Vikings.

Minnesota Vikings Game Lines will be interesting this season as the team looks to revamp the offense for 2024 completely. Fantasy Keeper managers of Justin Jefferson are nervously curious about who will be the quarterback this season. However, adding former Packers running back Aaron Jones is a solid pickup that could help the offense find balance in 2024. Last year’s first-round pick, WR Jordan Addison, should continue to develop and be an excellent complement player opposite Jefferson, and the team does still arguably have a top-10 offensive line.

The big question is quarterback.

J.J. McCarthy has first-round arm talent and can beat defenses with his legs, but not everyone is sold on him being ready to lead an NFL offense from day one. McCarthy ranked third in the country in Total QBR (89.2) and completion percentage (72.3%) in 2023. Since he took over as the Wolverines’ starter in 2022, he threw 44 touchdown passes and nine interceptions. Sam Darnold was brought in as a veteran gunslinger who could start a few games for the Vikings as they ease whatever rookie the team drafts into the offense.

Players Leaving (as of March 14)

  • QB Kirk Cousins (ATL)
  • RB Alexander Mattison (FA)

Players Newly Acquired

  • RB Aaron Jones
  • QB Sam Darnold
  • LB Blake Cashman
  • OLB Jonathan Greenard
  • DL Jonathan Bullard
  • WR Brandon Powell
  • TE Johnny Mundt

NFL Betting odds are always a fun indicator of player movement this time of year. Seeing the shift in Division odds and Super Bowl odds is very telling on what teams made the right moves and which teams may take a step back. Currently, the Vikings are +7500 to win Super Bowl LIX, which ties them as the 20th team in terms of odds.
