Tetairoa McMillan Fantasy 2025
The Carolina Panthers have added a first-round wide receiver in back-to-back NFL Drafts. This year’s pick, Tetairoa McMillan, selected 8th overall, teams up with Xavier Legette, who was drafted 32nd last year, to hopefully build a potent passing attack for Bryce Young.
Both wide receivers are very similar in build; Legette is 6’3 “and 227lbs, while McMillan is 6’5” and 215lbs. This is unusual, but there’s a clear logic to why the Panthers targeted big outside receivers. For starters, Young is undersized and had one of the lowest adjusted yards per attempt in the NFL last year. Big-bodied receivers help expand his strike zone. By giving him long, physical targets who can win on the boundary and in contested situations, Carolina reduces the margin of error on his throws. Even though they’re both “big WRs,” their games aren’t identical. Legette has a more straight-line speed and physical ability after the catch. He’s a vertical bully who stretches the field, whereas McMillan is a more polished route runner, reliable hands, and a technician vs. man coverage. He profiles as a volume target who can win on timing routes.
Several successful teams have invested in multiple big receivers at the same time, Mike Evans & Vincent Jackson back in the day in Tampa come to mind. Also, first-round WRs don’t all hit. If Legette doesn’t develop into more than a role player, McMillan still gives them a legit WR1. If both hit, they can terrorize defenses with size on both sides, forcing mismatches against smaller corners.

What Are the Odds
Currently, Tetairoa McMillan’s receiving yardage odds for 2025 are set at Over/Under 800.5. That’s a confident prop line from the sports betting community. McMillan’s college résumé backs up his fantasy projections as an immediate contributor. He finished top-25 nationally in yards per route run in each of his final two seasons at Arizona, showing consistent separation and efficiency. Against man coverage, the most challenging test for a receiver, he was one of the most targeted wideouts in the FBS and still ranked top-10 in yards per route run over two straight years, per PFF. That kind of battle-tested production signals he won’t need much of a learning curve against NFL corners.
Volume plus talent plus a quarterback trending upward is the recipe fantasy players want. If Carolina’s offense keeps progressing and McMillan sees the kind of target share his profile suggests, he could easily return WR1/2 numbers as a rookie.
