Super Bowl Odds Updated: AB Released and the Impact

Antonio Brown Released: NFL Futures Impact

Normally, placing a wager on who is going to win the Super Bowl is an offseason bet. NFL fans wait for Super Bowl betting odds to get released and depending on how they feel about their team, try to get in the best odds as possible. The same could be said about division odds or MVP. However, it’s not normal to have one of the best wide receivers in the league get released the day before the first full slate of Sunday games, and wherever he signs could greatly impact the season and chances to win it all.

If you haven’t been able to keep up with the drama, Antonio Brown has been released by the Oakland Raiders after trading for him in the offseason. AB’s rollercoaster offseason with the Black and Silver came to a close on Saturday as the team released the All-Pro wideout after he took to Instagram demanding to be let go. CBS Sportsline has posted odds to where Brown could sign next, and to no one’s surprise, the Patriots are the top option.

The New England Patriots system has a long history of winning and controlling drama along with helping mentor players in becoming all-pros. However, before the release of Brown on Saturday, the team had just $9 million in available cap space, that is to say before they locked up CB Jonathan Jones to a three-year extension value is close to $25 million. The Patriots are the fan-favorite to land Antonio Brown but might be too tight on cap space to make it happen. They also appear to be set at wide receiver after Josh Gordon was reinstated this past month.

Whoever decides to gamble on AB will be adding one of the leagues be wide receivers to their offense. Such a move will increase their odds to potentially win a Super Bowl if they can control him. The following are the latest Super Bowls as of September 7th, 2019

  • New England Patriots +700
  • Kansas City Chiefs +800
  • New Orleans Saints +800

  • New York Jets +8000

  • Buffalo Bills +10000
  • Cincinnati Bengals +12500
  • Miami Dolphins +12500

As much as I would personally hate to see Antonio Brown sign with the Patriots, the second he does I’d place a bet on the Pat’s to win the AFC and the Super Bowl. After Andrew Luck retired, I don’t see too many teams that could compete with New England outside of the Kansas City Chiefs, and even then they would need to play a perfect game. What are your thoughts? Where do you think he lands?
