AFC battle

Patrick Mahomes is only 28 years old but already has his third Super Bowl ring. At his current pace, he has the chance to surpass Tom Brady and his seven championships.

Who Will Take Out the Chiefs?

Buffalo Bills

Super Bowl Odds +1200

The Buffalo Bills odds for next season may rank 4th best in the league to win the Super Bowl, but being the AFC, they won’t even be able to get to the big game unless they can figure out how to beat Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.

The Bills have three big veteran free agents on defense who are in their 30s this offseason. SS Micah Hyde (9.6M), DT DaQuan Jones ($7M), and OLB Leonard Floyd ($7M) are all up for new contracts, but the big question is do they re-sign them? Despite fans very interested in bringing back DaQuan Jones, the Buffalo are estimated to be $49 million over the 2024 NFL salary cap, according to Over The Cap.

After drafting TE Dalton Smith in the first round last year and OG O’Cyrus Torrence in the 2nd round, it’s almost certain that the team will have to use most of their picks this year on trying to find capable replacements for their defense.

Bills also promoted LB coach Bobby Babich to defensive coordinator, making 2024 an uphill battle as this will be Babich’s first year as DC.

Cincinnati Bengals

Super Bowl Odds +1200

QB Joe Burrow tore a ligament in his right wrist, will resulted in him missing most of the 2023 season. Burrow has been plagued with injuries in his pro career, but this injury should be easy for him to overcome.

Similar to the Bills, the Bengals do have some important free agents to get under contract. DT D.J Reader is 29 years old and made $13.2M last year. He along with Tyler Boyrd ($10M) are free agents. However, the big name the Bengals need to get back is Tee Higgins, who is looking for a huge payday off of his rookie contract. Early reports are that the Bengals plan to use the Franchise Tag on Higgins.

Higgins would have the choice of sitting out or playing the 2024 season with a guaranteed salary that is projected to be $20.7 million.

Despite a few big names to get back under contract, the Bengals have an estimated $59.4 million available in cap space. They also hold the 18th overall pick in the NFL draft. With a good offseason, the Bengals have a chance to be back in full form.

Baltimore Ravens

Super Bowl Odds +900

The AFC championship game was embarrassing for the Ravens. This team was completely rattled and abandoned their running game early on. They did not look like the number one seed.

There are no major free-agent issues for the Ravens and the have some cap space available in 2024. They also have all their picks in the NFL draft, picking 30th overall in the first round.

In the divisional game against the Kansas City Chiefs, Gus Edwards had a 6.7 ypc average but only had three carries all game. Justice Hill also had just three carries. Lamar Jackson had 37 pass attempts in this game.

Do the Ravens have the talent to knock off the Chiefs? – Maybe. But we’ll never know if the coaching staff can’t put together a good game plan. The Ravens got a first-round bye, home-field advantage, and had one of the best running backs in the league, yet were only able to put up 10 points on the Chiefs.

Look inward.

Who do you like to compete against the Chiefs in 2024?
