Streaming Defenses Week 6

Fantasy Football Streaming Week 6

Streaming positions like Defense, Quarterback, and Tight End are a viable option for your season-long leagues. I employ this strategy for my defensive unit every year. It helped me win my matchup in week 4 as I started the Steelers defense against the Bengals. They scored me 19 points on Monday Night Football and I won by 3 points. This past week I grabbed the Eagles against the Jets and they put up 35 points against the Luke Falk led Jets. Week 6 sees the vaunted Bears defense on a bye so if you drafted the Bears D you will be looking for a streaming option.

Streaming at quarterback can be like playing Blackjack, sometimes there are easy hands that require little to no thinking whatsoever, and other times to need to take some chances. A guy like the man, the myth, the legend, Gardner Minshew II or Teddy Bridgewater are risky gambles, but they do have a lot of upside. Let’s take a look at some of my favorite streaming options for week 6 in the NFL.

Streaming Defenses

San Francisco 49ers

40% owned Yahoo/37% Owned ESPN

The 49ers defense has been excellent through 4 games. They have not allowed more than 20 points in any game. To go along with that, they have at least 3 sacks in 3 of 4 contests and have forced at least 2 turnovers in 3 of 4 games played. The defensive line may be the best in the NFL with Nick Bosa and Dee Ford wreaking havoc every week. The only concern for me is the matchup, on the road against the Rams. However, Jared Goff has thrown 6 interceptions in the last 3 games while only throwing 5 touchdowns. The Rams have lost 2 in a row and their offense has been in a bit of slump. The 49ers are a defense to consider this week.

Pittsburgh Steelers

27% owned Yahoo/25% owned ESPN

The Pittsburgh Steelers have been a very good fantasy defense over the last 3 weeks. In this time frame, the Steelers have 14 sacks and 10 forced turnovers. They have scored 11 or more points in all 3 games. The team is 1-4 and I think that is why the defense is so low owned. The Steelers travel to Los Angeles to take on the Chargers. The Chargers offensive line is not very good which should allow the Steelers to get after Philip Rivers and make him uncomfortable. Rivers and the offense struggled in week 5 and the Steelers defense has been opportunistic enough recently to be able to force another couple turnovers.

Streaming Quarterbacks

Gardner Minshew II

25% owned Yahoo/19% owned ESPN

Minshew Mania is a real thing in 2019 as Gardner Minshew II has taken the NFL by storm. His play on the field has lived up to his status off the field as well. Minshew has thrown for 2 touchdowns in every game but 1 this year while topping 200 yards in every game. Minshew now gets a New Orleans Saints defense that is allowing 23.25 points per game to the position (3rd most). Minshew is looking at a prime matchup to stay hot in week 6.

Kirk Cousins

42% owned Yahoo/26% owned ESPN

kirk cousins vikingsKirk Cousins had his best game of 2019 last week. He completed 22 of 27 passes for over 3oo yards and 2 touchdowns. it was his first 300-yard game and first 2 touchdown pass game in 2019. The Vikings are facing the Eagles in week 6. The Vikings will still try and run the football this week but the Eagles run defense is one of the best in the NFL. As for the Eagles pass defense, that’s another story. The Vikings should be able to exploit the Eagles secondary with Stefon Diggs and Adam Thielen.

Streaming Tight End

Chris Herndon

30% owned Yahoo/12% owned ESPN

Chris Herndon is finally back from suspension and although Adam Gase is saying he isn’t sure what role Herndon will have in his first week back, I have a tough time thinking they keep one of their better players on the bench or not involved. There is obviously quite a bit of risk with this pick so keep an eye on his status but I think he jumps right back in and can return TE1 value right away.

Gerald Everett

12% owned Yahoo/3% owned ESPN

This is probably an obvious one but go get him while you can. This position is so thin and Everett has now had back to back solid weeks and the Rams may be without Brandin Cooks in week 6. The last 2 weeks Everett has gone 5/44/1 and 7/136/0 with Cooks in the lineup. With the state of the tight end position, I would make Everett my number 1 waiver priority. With this type of production, Everett should continue to see work and could develop into more a weekly start as opposed to a streamer.
