Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 8

We’re just about to the midseason mark of the 2023 NFL season. This season has been a roller coaster for fantasy team owners. Many team managers have had to deal with an immense amount of adversity so far this season between injuries and unexpected outcomes. The best strategy so far this season has been utilizing the players on your bench to fill in for injured players. Week 7 did not have too many players that received significant injuries, which is always good for team owners, so no major changes there. However, it is always good to keep track of players who could potentially see playing time in your starting lineup each week.

Here are my recommendations for Start ‘Em Sit ‘Em Week 8.

Startem Sitem

Kenny Pickett

Jaguars @ Steelers | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 6.1%

Pickett led the Steelers to a victory over the Los Angeles Rams 24-17, scoring 15.2 fantasy points in the outing. This week, Pickett has a much better matchup against the Jaguars defense that on average allows 21.9 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Watch for the Pickett-Pickens connection this week as they look to expose a weak Jaguars secondary. Pickett should be considered a mid-end to high-end QB2 in week 8.

Mac Jones

Patriots @ Dolphins | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 1.0%

Jones led the New England Patriots to a shocking win over the Buffalo Bills 29-25 on Sunday afternoon. Despite a tough matchup, Jones scored 19.98 fantasy points for fantasy team owners. He has a much easier matchup against the Miami Dolphins defense that on average allows 21.1 fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Jones should be considered a high-end QB2 as I believe he will build off his last performance and put-up decent fantasy football numbers in week 8.

Dameon Pierce

Texans @ Panthers | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 15.8%

After resting during their bye in week 7, I fully expect Pierce to bounce back from his dud performance in week 6. Pierce is facing a Panthers defense that gives up the second-highest fantasy points to running backs allowing 27.6 points on average. Pierce should be considered a high-end RB1 in week 8.

D’Onta Foreman

Bears @ Chargers | 8:20 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 33.2%

Foreman scored the highest fantasy points amongst the running backs, scoring 33 points in PPR leagues this past Sunday. Foreman will continue the trend as the Chicago Bears lead back going into week 8 against the Los Angeles Chargers defense that on average allows 16.2 fantasy points to opposing running backs, signaling a good matchup. Foreman should be considered a high-end RB2 in week 8.

Breece Hall

Jets @ Giants | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 13.9%

Throughout the season, Hall has shown that he is the life of the New York Jets offense. That will most likely show again against a weak New York Giants rushing defense as they allow 19.3 fantasy points on average to opposing running backs. Hall should be considered a low-end RB1 in a great matchup in week 8.

George Pickens

Jaguars @ Steelers | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 44.9%

The Pickett-Pickens connection is starting to heat up as we approach the midseason mark. Last week Pickens scored 15.7 fantasy points in PPR leagues for fantasy managers. Pickens has a good matchup against the Jacksonville Jaguars defense that on average allows 22.3 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. He should be considered a low-end WR1 as I expect him to perform well for fantasy team owners in week 8.

Rashee Rice

Chiefs @ Broncos | 4:25 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 25.6%

Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes is starting to target wide receiver Rashee Rice more often than every week. Rice currently leads the Chiefs receivers in targets with 34. Last week against the Los Angeles chargers defense, Rice scored 17 fantasy points in PPR leagues for team owners. Expect Rice to build on that performance against the Denver Broncos defense that allows 21.4 fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. Rice should be considered a high-end WR2 to low-end WR1 in week 8.

Darren Waller

Jets @ Giants | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 78.8%

Waller is starting to get rolling in the New York Giants offense after backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor takes the place of the injured Daniel Jones. Waller had a great game against the Washington Commanders defense in week 7, scoring 22.8 fantasy points in PPR leagues, the second highest amongst the tight end position group behind Travis Kelce. Waller has a fantastic matchup this week against the New York Giants defense that allows 9.8 fantasy points on average to opposing tight ends which is the highest in the league. Waller should be considered a high-end TE1 for fantasy team owners in week 8.

Start Sit

Brock Purdy

Bengals @ 49ers | 4:25 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 50.5%

For the second week in a row, Purdy and the San Francisco 49ers offense couldn’t get the ball rolling and ultimately lost to the Minnesota Vikings 22-17 on Monday night. Purdy scored 12.78 fantasy points in the game and has been doing the bare minimum lately. Purdy cannot be playing mediocre and expect to lead his team to victory. He has been falling off fantasy football charts these past few weeks and should be overlooked until further notice.

Brian Robinson Jr.

Eagles @ Commanders | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 58.3%

Despite handling most of the carries, Robinson Jr. only scored 8.3 fantasy points in PPR leagues last week. Robinson Jr. faces one of the fiercest defenses in the league against the Philadelphia Eagles defense in week 8. I recommend sitting him this game as I do not expect the offense as well as Robinson Jr. to do much in this game.

Marquise Brown

Ravens @ Cardinals | 4: 25 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 65.7%

The Cardinals offense has been a major dud this season and I expect the trend to continue against the Baltimore Ravens defense. Last week, the Ravens defense shut down the entire Detroit Lions offense outscoring them 38-6. Obviously, you cannot compare Detroit Lions receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown to Marquise Brown. I recommend sitting Brown in this tough matchup.

Jonnu Smith

Falcons @ Titans | 1:00 pm EST Sunday

ESPN Starting Percentage: 32.6%

I expect Kyle Pitts to receive most of the targets amongst the tight end position, thus making Smith irrelevant in a tough matchup. I recommend sitting Smith in week 8.
