Willie Snead Suspended for 3 Games: Fantasy Advice

Snead Suspended for Three Games

Willie Snead FantasyThe NFL suspended New Orleans Saints Wide Receiver Willie Snead three games for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse on Friday. The suspension reportedly stems from an offseason DUI. Adam Schefter reports the ban was reduced from four games to three on appeal. Snead will miss games against the Vikings, Patriots, and Panthers but he’ll be eligible to return for Week 4’s tilt with the Dolphins in London.

Ted Ginn claimed the wide receiver two role on the Saints roster this summer, but with Snead’s suspension kept under wraps, the coaching staff may have just awarded the job to Ginn early, knowing they wouldn’t be with Snead for the first three weeks of the season. After trading away Brandin Cooks in the offseason, there was a lot of Fantasy hype on Snead to have a big season in 2017. Fantasy owners will need to be patient and wait for his return.

The Saints open up the 2017 season on the road on Monday Night Football in week one. They will be traveling to Minnesota to take on the Vikings, who currently are 3.5 point favorites. Surprisingly, the point spread did not budge with news of Snead’s suspension, which leads me to believe Vegas feels the Saints offense will run just as well with a player like Brandon Coleman filling the void. The storyline for week one could very much be the return of Adrian Peterson to Minnesota, but I digress.

Fantasy Advice

Owning Snead

From my 20 years of experience, I find Fantasy owners tend to overreact to surprise news like Snead’s three-game suspension. I could very easily see someone wanting to trade Snead away as they are annoyed by the situation. Fantasy owners often struggle to look beyond the first week of the season. They care only about week one and nothing else. The goal of every season is to make your playoffs. Trading away Snead at this point, when his stock is very low, would be foolish. My advice would be to stash him on your bench and wait for his return.

Trading for Snead

For those fantasy owners who love to trade and have a luxury bench player that you aren’t using in your starting lineup, it’s worth seeing if Snead is available. Being proactive is a smart way to build a fantasy roster. It doesn’t hurt to try and see if you can snatch Snead away from a fantasy owner who is concerned about depth.

Willie Snead Fantasy Value ADP Outlook 2017

For those who still have a fantasy football draft coming up this week, Wille Snead’s average draft position has fallen, but not as far as you’d think. He is still currently being drafted in the middle of the seventh round, which is a high considering he’ll be missing three games of the season. Pierre Garcon is being drafted at 7.11 and is a player I would highly recommend over Snead for your draft. Unless you can get Snead in the middle of the eighth round, I would seriously consider just avoiding the Saints slot receiver all together.
