Chicago Bears wide receivers coach Antwaan Randle El believes second-year wideout Rome Odunze is on the verge of a breakout season. Speaking this week, Randle El praised the former first-round pick for his versatility, noting that Odunze could be deployed in multiple spots across the formation.

“He’s going to have a big year,” Randle El said. “We can line him up in different places and trust him to win.”

Odunze emerged as one of the brightest young talents during his rookie campaign and has carried that momentum into 2025. Reports out of training camp highlighted his growing chemistry with rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the top overall pick in April’s draft. Williams has already leaned heavily on Odunze during joint practices and preseason action, where the receiver’s size, route running, and ability to make contested catches stood out.

While DJ Moore remains Chicago’s established WR1, Odunze’s development has raised the possibility of a 1A and 1B setup within the offense. Moore’s ability to stretch defenses vertically complements Odunze’s intermediate strength, giving Williams two reliable options as he adjusts to the pro game. Free-agent addition Keenan Allen also provides veteran experience, but Odunze’s role as a dynamic every-down option is expanding quickly.

The Bears’ offensive philosophy under new head coach Ben Johnson points to an even greater emphasis on the passing game. Johnson, known for his creativity in Detroit, has emphasized spacing, quick reads, and maximizing receiver matchups. That approach should benefit Odunze, who can line up outside, in the slot, or even move into motion to create mismatches.

Statistically, Chicago leaned on its receivers in 2024, ranking near the top of the league in target share to the position. With Williams under center and a deeper supporting cast, there is little reason to expect that trend to change. Odunze’s ability to adapt to different roles makes him a natural fit for Johnson’s system.

From a fantasy football perspective, Odunze has clear WR2 upside entering the year. His expected volume, combined with his ability to win in the red zone, makes him an attractive option in both season-long and daily formats. Managers should not view him as simply a secondary option to Moore, but as a core piece of an evolving Bears offense.
