Chiefs News: Rashee Rice Cleared For Camp
Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Rashee Rice has been cleared for the start of training camp next week, head coach Andy Reid told Chiefs.com’s Matt McMullen.
Rice will be ready to go, along with quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who is also fully cleared as he continues recovering from a torn ACL and LCL.
Rice underwent a minor arthroscopic procedure in May to clean up loose bodies in his right knee. The recovery was complicated by an unrelated legal issue: Rice served a 30-day jail sentence this offseason after violating the terms of his probation from the 2024 Dallas street-racing crash, testing positive for THC. He continued rehabbing his knee while incarcerated and was released in mid-June.
The NFL has not yet determined whether the probation violation will result in additional discipline separate from the six-game suspension Rice already served in 2025 tied to the original crash. That uncertainty looms over his outlook heading into the season, even with his knee fully healthy.
The 26-year-old former second-round pick out of SMU flashed true WR1 upside as a rookie in 2023, catching 79 of 102 targets for 938 yards and seven touchdowns across 16 games. Since then, injuries and suspension have limited him to just 12 games combined over the past two seasons, a stretch that has made it difficult for fantasy managers and the Chiefs alike to fully bank on his availability.
If he stays on the field for a full season and avoids further league discipline, Rice still profiles as Mahomes’ top target and a legitimate high-end fantasy receiver. But the lingering suspension question has weighed heavily on his current market value, and he now sits well outside the top tier of wide receivers in most rankings.
Fantasy managers weighing Rice this summer are essentially betting on a resolution to his legal situation as much as his on-field talent. If the league clears him without further punishment, his current discounted price could look like a bargain in hindsight. If not, the games-missed trend of the last two seasons could easily continue into 2026.
