Week 1 Lock Em’ Up Picks
With our first taste of NFL action out of the way, it’s time to move onto the main course and the first Sunday slate of games!
Just like many office or workplace pick ‘em pools around the country, we at Gridiron Experts have our own. Each week you will see which writer is the most accurate with picks, as well as get some useful fantasy info, and a lock of the week. Since this is the first week and we are all sitting at 0-0, here are our consensus “Lock of the Week” picks.
New England Patriots at Buffalo Bills:
While New England seems to be the dominate team, the fact is the Bills always seem to play a pretty close game especially at Ralph Wilson Stadium. Many question marks for both teams heading into this match up. Will the Patriots offense still revolve around Tom Brady
leading an aerial assault with relative unknown receivers, or will they decide to run the ball more? E.J. Manuel
looks to be the starter for the bills week one, and while I think he will become a great fantasy football asset, this Patriots defense will be a tough first test. The Bills are also struggling with some injuries on the defensive side of the ball, which doesn’t bode well against an unpredictable Bill Belichick offense. We think the Patriots win this one.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at New York Jets:
The Jets circus continues, as Geno Smith
has been named the starter for week one. Yet the Jets still lack big time playmakers, making the Buccaneers lick their chops in this one. Tampa will also be testing out their new toy in Darrelle Revis
. While we think the Bucs will win this one, its also important to know that they could be a a top fantasy defense this week. Gridiron Experts have them ranked as the number one overall defense this week
. If you waited to draft a defense, go out and pick up Tampa Bay now.
Indianapolis Colts vs. Oakland Raiders :
Indianapolis with a home game against what could be the worst team in the league could spell an easy victory. Not to mention Oakland will be trotting out an inexperienced quarterback in Terrell Pryor
. That said Pryor could be a nice streaming start or daily fantasy option, as he is a low risk, high reward play this week. I think the Colts will get a decent lead early, then let Ahmad Bradshaw
and Vick Ballard
grind out the clock. Colts start the season 1-0.
Houston Texans at San Diego Chargers:
The second game of the first Monday Night Football of 2013 may cause you to go to bed early. The Texans seem solid in all aspects of their team, and the defense in particular should give Philip Rivers
plenty of headaches. The Chargers have some talent, but in recent year just can’t seem to get it all together. With a new coach and offense in place, the first week of the season may be a rocky one for San Diego. I look for Houston to get lead early and coast through the rest of the game to victory, allowing you to get some much needed sleep after a big time NFL welcome back weekend.
