NFL Rookie Of The Year Odds 2020

Joe Burrow rookie of the year odds

The offensive rookie of the year (ROY) is not as easy to predict as you might think. The consensus amongst the public is that the first overall pick wins the award every year. However, in actual fact, the ROY winner isn’t always a first-round player, nor is he always a quarterback. Making this unpredictable prop bet one that many who love sports betting a popular offseason target to bet on.

Last year, Cardinals Kyler Murray, was the first overall pick since Cam Newton in 2011 to win the award, ending an eight-year streak. There as also only been five quarterbacks who have won the award over the last ten years, one of which was Dak Prescott who was drafted in the fourth round and who was the 8th QB drafted that year.

NFL Rookie Of The Year Odds 2020

The 2020 rookie draft class had some interesting landing spots, creating some temping NFL rookie of the year odds. The following are my thoughts on safe and long-shot bets for this year.

Joe Burrow

NFL Rookie Of The Year Odds: +250 ( 2.5 to 1)

I’ve been watching football for over twenty-five years and the days of falling in love with the top quarterback are long gone. It takes time to find your rhythm in the pros, the game is faster and you need to make quicker decisions than what was expected of you in college. Even the best quarterbacks of the game usually see ups and downs in their first season. However, that being said, in terms of having the best shot at winning rookie of the year, I think Burrow has a huge leg up. Apparently, he was sent the Bengals playbook weeks ago and has already absorbed it. There is no one in front of him as Andy Dalton has been released. Burrow has off-the-charts football IQ, a strong arm and excellent pocket presence. His roster isn’t a complete dumpster fire and he should have a decent shot at winning the ROY award in 2020. His odds aren’t very appealing, but I do like his chances compared to the rest of the rookies in this draft class. He is somewhat a safe bet for me at +250

Tua Tagovailoa

NFL Rookie Of The Year Odds: +900 ( 9 to 1)

NFL Rookie Of The Year OddsThe odds alone make Tua very appealing. Tom Brady is no longer the best QB in the division and the first time in over twenty years, you can honestly say the AFC East is up for grabs.

The Dolphins had a great draft but the surrounding cast isn’t going to be doing Tua any favors. There is also a very good chance the Dolphins don’t start the former Sooners quarterback until mid-season, which would really hurt his chances at winning the NFL rookie of the year odds bet. If you like Tua I would either get in early and hope he wins the job in training camp or bookmark it and see if you can grab it closer to the start of the season after they name Ryan Fitzpatrick the starter. There is a good chance these odds jump to 12 to 1 or higher entering the season as he sits on the bench. At that point, you’re hoping for Fitzpatrick to crash and burn giving Tua 10 to 12 games to wow people enough to win this award.

Cam Akers

NFL Rookie Of The Year Odds: +1400 ( 14 to 1)

The Rams have already changed their identity. This offseason they traded Brandin Cooks to the Texans, released Todd Gurley, and made noticeable upgrades to their offensive line. They then went on to draft Cam Akers out of Florida State with their first pick of the draft (57th overall). Alers is 5’10 and has meat on his bones weighing in at 217lbs. He is a power back with a nose for the endzone. I believe with the emergence of Tyler Higbee late last season, the Rams want to line up more in 12 personal. They have an above-average offensive line and two good tight ends. Darrell Henderson Jr. was drafted in 70th overall (3rd round) the year before, but the coaching staff clearly wasn’t impressed with him last season. I like Akers a lot and think if the Rams feed him the ball he could have a huge season. At 14 to 1 odds, Akers in a very tough decision is my long-shot NFL rookie of the year odds pick.
