NFL Power Rankings Week 13

After 12 weeks of the 2018 season, I feel confident that the winner of Super Bowl LIII will be one of the top 8 teams in our Week 13 Power Rankings…or the Colts.

As always, these rankings loosely reflect my current Super Bowl odds.

New Orleans Saints

Power Ranking: 1

  • Record: 10-1
  • Previous Rank: 1
  • Week 12: Win vs Falcons, 31-17
  • Week 13: Thursday Night Football @ DAL

Is their Week 13 TNF tilt in Dallas a trap game for the Saints?

Los Angeles Rams

Power Ranking: 2

  • Record: 10-1
  • Previous Rank: 2
  • Week 12: Bye
  • Week 13: @ DET

Are the Rams the team most likely to win the Super Bowl?

Kansas City Chiefs

Power Ranking: 3

  • Record: 9-2
  • Previous Rank: 3
  • Week 12: Bye
  • Week 13: @ OAK

To reward the fantasy coaches who suffered through the Chiefs’ bye week without the team’s offensive stars, they’ll take their video game offense to Oakland in Week 13.

Los Angeles Chargers

Power Ranking: 4

  • Record: 8-3
  • Previous Rank: 6
  • Week 12: Win vs Cardinals, 45-10
  • Week 13: Sunday Night Football @ PIT

The Chargers’ SNF meeting with the Steelers could produce another primetime shootout. The division title is not yet out of the question.

Chicago Bears

Power Ranking: 5

  • Record: 8-3
  • Previous Rank: 7
  • Week 12: Win @ Lions, 23-16
  • Week 13: @ NYG

The Bears survived a potential trap game on Thanksgiving without starting QB Mitchell Trubisky, whose status for Week 13 remains unclear. Do they even need him against the Giants?

New England Patriots

Power Ranking: 6

  • Record: 8-3
  • Previous Rank: 5
  • Week 12: Win @ Jets, 27-13
  • Week 13: vs MIN

The Patriots are perhaps as flawed as they’ve been in recent years, but they’re still going to win the AFC East, and they’re still dangerous enough to win the Super Bowl.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Power Ranking: 7

  • Record: 7-3-1
  • Previous Rank: 4
  • Week 12: Loss @ Broncos, 24-17
  • Week 13: Sunday Night Football vs LAC

The Steelers played really well on both sides of the ball in Denver. The only real problem? Turnovers. And the team’s -7 turnover differential will be what prevents a deep playoff run if it isn’t rectified.

Houston Texans

Power Ranking: 8

  • Record: 8-3
  • Previous Rank: 8
  • Week 12: Win vs Titans, 34-17
  • Week 13: vs CLE

After starting 0-3, the Texans have won 8 in a row and have a realistic shot at a first-round bye. Will they lose another game?

Minnesota Vikings

Power Ranking: 9

  • Record: 6-4-1
  • Previous Rank: 10
  • Week 12: Win vs Packers, 24-17
  • Week 13: @ NE

Minnesota is back in the playoff picture after beating the Packers, but must travel to Foxborough this week. Are the Vikings built to beat the Patriots?

Seattle Seahawks

Power Ranking: 10

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 11
  • Week 12: Win @ Panthers, 30-27
  • Week 13: vs SF

Seattle’s 6-5 record and the team’s remaining schedule bode well for their playoff hopes.

Indianapolis Colts

Power Ranking: 11

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 12
  • Week 12: Win vs Dolphins, 27-24
  • Week 13: @ JAC

Accounting for Le’Veon Bell’s recent tip of the cap to Andrew Luck on social media, and Reggie Wayne saying he “would pick him up from the airport,” Bovada now has the Colts as the favorite to sign Bell this offseason.

Carolina Panthers

Power Ranking: 12

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 9
  • Week 12: Loss vs Seahawks, 30-27
  • Week 13: @ TB

It has been a rough few weeks for the Panthers: as recently as Week 10, they seemed to be among the class of the NFC, and now, the team is working out kickers to potentially replace Graham Gano, the hero of Week 5.

Baltimore Ravens

Power Ranking: 13

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 13
  • Week 12: Win vs Raiders, 34-17
  • Week 13: @ ATL

Joe Flacco was not healthy enough to practice on Wednesday. Does anyone still think it matters?

Dallas Cowboys

Power Ranking: 14

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 17
  • Week 12: Win vs Redskins, 31-23
  • Week 13:

The Amari Cooper trades looks better every week, and the team that many wrote off a few weeks ago are now a contender in the NFC.

Philadelphia Eagles

Power Ranking: 15

  • Record: 5-6
  • Previous Rank: 16
  • Week 12: Win vs Giants, 25-22
  • Week 13: Monday Night Football vs Redskins

TE Zach Ertz is having a career year, but rookie RB Josh Adams’ rapid ascent up the depth chart is (rightfully) the talk of the town.

Denver Broncos

Power Ranking: 16

  • Record: 5-6
  • Previous Rank: 21
  • Week 12: Win vs Steelers, 24-17
  • Week 13: @ CIN

After an emotional upset of the Steelers at Mile High, Denver gets a beat-up Cincinnati team whose backup quarterback is making his first career start in Week 13.

Tennessee Titans

Power Ranking: 17

  • Record: 5-6
  • Previous Rank: 14
  • Week 12: Loss @ Texans, 34-17
  • Week 13: vs NYJ

Last week, we asked, “Which version of the Titans will show up for their crucial MNF matchup with the Texans?” Unfortunately, it was not a good one.

Green Bay Packers

Power Ranking: 18

  • Record: 4-6-1
  • Previous Rank: 15
  • Week 12: Loss @ Vikings, 24-17
  • Week 13: vs ARI

Another week, another disappointing loss by the Packers. Is it possible that Aaron Rodgers has received too little of the blame for the team’s underachievement?

Atlanta Falcons

Power Ranking: 19

  • Record: 4-7
  • Previous Rank: 18
  • Week 12: Loss @ Saints, 31-17
  • Week 13: vs BAL

Untimely turnovers (are there any timely ones?) deprived the Falcons of a chance to go shot-for-shot with the mighty Saints on Thanksgiving night. Their playoff hopes are now on life support.

Cleveland Browns

Power Ranking: 20

  • Record: 4-6-1
  • Previous Rank: 26
  • Week 12: Win @ Bengals, 35-20
  • Week 13: @ HOU

As it turns out, Week 12’s trip to Cincinnati was indeed a Hue Jackson revenge game, just not for Hue.

Washington Redskins

Power Ranking: 21

  • Record: 6-5
  • Previous Rank: 19
  • Week 12: Loss @ Cowboys, 31-23
  • Week 13: Monday Night Football @ PHI

Though technically still tied for 1st in the NFC East, it would be surprising if the Redskins finish better than 3rd.

Detroit Lions

Power Ranking: 22

  • Record: 4-7
  • Previous Rank: 22
  • Week 12: Loss vs Bears, 23-16
  • Week 13: vs LAR

With their season on the line, the Lions couldn’t complete their upset bid against the Trubisky-less Bears on Thanksgiving. The buzz in Detroit has now shifted to whether the team should trade Matthew Stafford.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Power Ranking: 23

  • Record: 4-7
  • Previous Rank: 25
  • Week 12: Win vs 49ers, 27-9
  • Week 13: vs CAR

QB Jameis Winston played a good, turnover-free game in his re-installation as the team’s starter. Is there enough season left for him to save his job for 2019?

Cincinnati Bengals

Power Ranking: 24

  • Record: 5-6
  • Previous Rank: 20
  • Week 12: Loss vs Browns, 35-20
  • Week 13: vs DEN

In what could be an extended audition for a starting role, does Jeff Driskel have the measurables to make things interesting?

Miami Dolphins

Power Ranking: 25

  • Record: 5-6
  • Previous Rank: 23
  • Week 12: Loss @ Colts, 27-24
  • Week 13: vs BUF

In his return to the lineup, QB Ryan Tannehill game-managed the Dolphins back below .500. Incredibly, his play would actually justify any cries for Brock Osweiler to get another shot at leading the offense.

Jacksonville Jaguars

Power Ranking: 26

  • Record: 3-8
  • Previous Rank: 24
  • Week 12: Loss @ Bills,
  • Week 13: vs IND

The Jaguars’ disastrous loss in Buffalo will have ramifications for at least another game, as RB Leonard Fournette has been suspended for one game and the team has finally benched QB Blake Bortles.

New York Giants

Power Ranking: 27

  • Record: 3-8
  • Previous Rank: 28
  • Week 12: Loss @ Eagles, 25-22
  • Week 13: vs CHI

The Giants looked competent in Week 12, but still came up short against the rival Eagles. RB Saquon Barkley continued his amazing rookie season, and is now on pace for over 2,000 yards from scrimmage.

Buffalo Bills

Power Ranking: 28

  • Record: 4-7
  • Previous Rank: 32
  • Week 12: Win vs Jaguars, 24-21
  • Week 13: @ MIA

Despite their record, the Bills showed plenty of fire in their Week 12 win over the Jags.

New York Jets

Power Ranking: 29

  • Record: 3-8
  • Previous Rank: 27
  • Week 12: Loss vs Patriots, 27-13
  • Week 13: @ TEN

The Jets gave the Patriots a good game for 30+ minutes, which is more than they have given many opponents this season.

San Francisco 49ers

Power Ranking: 30

  • Record: 2-9
  • Previous Rank: 29
  • Week 12: Loss @ Buccaneers, 27-9
  • Week 13: @ SEA

Depending on your perspective, the buzz of Week 13 for San Francisco is either Richard Sherman facing his old team, or who the 49ers should select at the top of the 2019 NFL Draft.

Oakland Raiders

Power Ranking: 31

  • Record: 2-9
  • Previous Rank: 30
  • Week 12: Loss @ Ravens, 34-17
  • Week 13: vs KC

The Raiders have the ignominious distinction of being a rare 15-point home underdog when they host the Chiefs in Week 13.

Arizona Cardinals

Power Ranking: 32

  • Record: 2-9
  • Previous Rank: 31
  • Week 12: Loss @ Chargers, 45-10
  • Week 13: @ GB

Silver lining: Arizona had a 10-0 lead over the Chargers, in Los Angeles, in Week 12 before surrendering 45 unanswered points.
