Najee Harris Signs With the Giants

Giants News: Najee Harris Added

The New York Giants are signing free-agent running back Najee Harris to an undisclosed one-year deal, according to the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo. The move comes a day after Harris visited the team, a session that reportedly went well enough to produce a deal once his medicals checked out.

The veteran will join an already crowded Giants backfield that includes Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy Jr., and Devin Singletary. The 28-year-old former first-round pick in 2021 out of Alabama put together four straight 1,000-yard rushing seasons to begin his career in Pittsburgh, starting 68 consecutive regular-season games in the process, before a torn Achilles tendon limited him to just three games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2025. He had 15 carries for 61 yards on the ground in that brief stretch before the injury, suffered in Week 3 against the Denver Broncos, ended his season.

Unlike the framing suggested by his visit going well, Harris is not yet considered fully recovered. Multiple reports indicate he’s still working his way back to 100% and will need time before he’s ready for a significant role, a notable distinction for fantasy purposes given how crowded New York’s backfield already is. Skattebo remains on track to reprise his role as the Giants’ lead back entering his second NFL season, meaning Harris will need to prove both his health and his standing in the pecking order before he factors into game plans in any meaningful way.

There is a real connection here worth watching, though. Giants head coach John Harbaugh has extensive familiarity with Harris from years of divisional battles as Baltimore’s head coach, and offensive coordinator Greg Roman served as the Chargers’ offensive coordinator last season, meaning he already has firsthand knowledge of what Harris brings to an offense. That continuity could help Harris integrate more quickly once he’s fully healthy, even if it doesn’t guarantee him touches right away.

For now, with a crowded depth chart ahead of him and his own recovery still in progress, Harris should remain off the fantasy radar in standard-sized leagues. He’s worth monitoring as camp and the preseason progress, particularly if his practice workload increases and gives a clearer signal of where he stands physically, but there’s no urgency to roster him until that picture becomes clearer.
