Mohamed Sanu Drawing Interest from Browns, Giants

Mohamed Sanu

Mohamed SanuFOX Sports’ Alex Marvez reports there’s “virtually no chance” the Cincinnati Bengals re-sign free agent Mohamed Sanu and are expecting to let him walk. The 26 year old third round pick has spent four seasons with the Bengals never topping more than 800 yards. Sanu also couldn’t find the endzone in the passing game last season which hurt his overall fantasy output.

A change of scenery could be exactly what Sanu needs to jump start his NFL career. Early rumors are the Cleveland Browns and New York Giants will kick the tires on the seasoned veteran WR once NFL free agency opens up.

The Browns overall team needs is a list too long worth mentioning, yet with Josh Gordon coming back they aren’t as desperate as one might think. Adding a player like Sanu could fit in nicely as a complementary player that will take some of the heat off Gordon – that is to say Gordon returns to elite form.

The Giants rumor is somewhat surprising to me. The team may feel Sanu could be brought in at a bargain price considering his underwhelming stats from a season ago. Sanu saw just 49 targets in 2015. The Giants may also feel his style of play may be something that could potentially work well with the teams current offense.

Sanu doesn’t have blazing speed. He ran a 4.67 at the 2012 NFL Combine but has shown the ability make plays running routes across the field. Listed at only 6-foot-2, Sanu plays big and was used in a number of ways with the Bengals, including wide receiver screens and trick plays in which Sanu would throw the ball down the field.

Overall I feel Sanu could be a bargain investment player added to a team lacking toughness and size. The Packers, Eagles, Falcons and Seahawks are just a few teams I think should explore the idea of signing him.
