Packers wideout and twitter #FantasyFootball favorite Jeff Janis broke a finger and is expected to have surgery and be sidelined for 4-6 weeks.

Janis is the classic case of obsessive fantasy fanatics overreacting to ultimately meaningless preseason fantasy results. The third-year receiver has made some big catches in Green Bay’s warm-up games but has done very little when the games count. Through two seasons, Janis has all of four catches on his resume.

Even with the golden opportunity to emerge last year when Jordy Nelson missed the entire season and the Green Bay offense was desperate for playmakers, Janis barely saw the field and had no impact.

Fantasy Impact

Don’t buy into the hype. Janis has had multiple opportunities to emerge as Green Bay’s WR3, but can’t beat out Davante Adams or Ty Montgomery. For 2016, any chance he had of competing for that job is now gone.

He’s worth keeping an eye on during the season if Adams or Montgomery falter, but Janis shouldn’t be drafted in 12-team redraft leagues. Consider him only a low-priority waiver wire candidate.
