Packers News
[the_ad id=”105842″]Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed remained the lone non-participant at Wednesday’s practice as he continues to manage a Jones fracture in his left foot. The team’s leading receiver returned to practice last week after being in a walking boot, but still faces discomfort when planting and cutting, making his Week 1 availability uncertain.
Head coach Matt LaFleur and team sources have not placed Reed on injured reserve or the PUP list. That suggests the Packers are hopeful he might still suit up Sunday against the Detroit Lions. Still, his absence from Wednesday’s session signals caution. Reed will need to show improvement in Thursday or Friday practices to have a chance to play.
Reed suffered the Jones fracture during training camp and opted against surgery, choosing instead to attempt to play through the injury this season. That decision carries risk, especially given the instability such fractures can create for receivers performing sudden cuts and route breaks.
When healthy, Reed serves as the Packers’ starting slot receiver. With Christian Watson on the PUP list and Romeo Doubs sidelined, Green Bay’s receiver depth is thin. Rookie Matthew Golden is waiting in the wings, and his role could expand if Reed remains limited.
The Packers open their 2025 regular season against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field. The team is managing several key absences, not just Reed’s, but also Watson’s, Doubs’s, and others, which places added pressure on the returning players, including Jordan Love, to step up.
Fantasy Football managers should view Reed as a high-risk option. If he plays, he’s likely a boom/bust slot receiver; if he does not, his absence shakes up Green Bay’s receiving corps and could open opportunities for Golden or outside receivers.
Golden was featured in our Week 1 Start’ Em, Sit’ Em article. See who else made the list.
