Houston wide receiver Jayden Higgins posted season-high numbers in the Texans’ 36-29 comeback victory over Jacksonville on Sunday, finishing with five catches for 42 yards and a touchdown on seven targets.
The performance came in Week 10 at NRG Stadium, where backup quarterback Davis Mills led Houston back from a 19-point fourth-quarter deficit after starter C.J. Stroud remained sidelined with a concussion. Higgins hauled in a 12-yard touchdown pass from Mills in the fourth quarter as part of the rally. The reception marked his second touchdown in three games.
Higgins’ workload has fluctuated since Collins returned from a concussion suffered in Week 7 against Seattle. The top receiver missed Week 8 against San Francisco before clearing concussion protocol and rejoining the lineup. Collins finished Sunday’s game with strong numbers in his second game back.
Kirk also returned to action after missing two games with a hamstring injury. The veteran slot receiver, acquired from Jacksonville in March, had been limited earlier in the season by the same issue that kept him out of Weeks 1 and 2.
The Texans selected Higgins in the second round of this year’s draft out of Iowa State. He has caught 19 passes for 201 yards and two touchdowns through 10 games. His targets and playing time have varied based on the health of the receiving corps.
Houston faces Tennessee on Sunday at Nissan Stadium in Nashville. The Texans improved to 4-5 with the victory and sit third in the AFC South standings. Tennessee enters Week 11 at 1-8 after their bye week. The receiving group also includes Xavier Hutchinson and fellow draft pick Jaylin Noel, who was selected in the third round. Tank Dell remains on injured reserve following knee surgery after suffering multiple ligament tears in December.
Mills completed 27 of 45 passes for 292 yards and two touchdowns in relief of Stroud. The comeback marked the second-largest in franchise history. Jacksonville led 29-10 entering the fourth quarter before Houston scored 26 unanswered points.
Higgins’ continued development provides depth for an offense that has struggled with consistency through the season’s first half. The Texans rank in the bottom third of the league in passing yards per game.
