[the_ad id=”105842″]San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Jauan Jennings participated in limited practice on Wednesday after battling five broken ribs, high and low ankle sprains, and a shoulder injury rated at 20 percent. The veteran is expected to be available for the team’s Week 7 matchup against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday at Levi’s Stadium.
Jennings played through a significant injury in Sunday’s 30-19 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, logging 53 snaps—roughly 83 percent of the team’s offensive plays. He finished the game with one reception on three targets for seven yards, marking a difficult afternoon for the wideout as the 49ers fell to 4-2 on the season.
“You know, playing with injuries, it’s part of it,” Jennings told reporters after the Tampa Bay game. “You got high and low ankle sprains. You got shoulders at 20%. You got ribs, five broken ribs. It is what it is. You keep playing and nobody cares. Keep playing. That’s what we do.”
Jennings revealed he suffered the rib injury in Week 4 during a home loss to Jacksonville, meaning he has carried the pain for the past three weeks. Despite the toll, he has remained in San Francisco’s lineup as the offense deals with significant depth concerns. Brandon Aiyuk and Ricky Pearsall are both sidelined with knee injuries, while George Kittle has not returned from injured reserve after suffering a hamstring injury in Week 1.
The afternoon in Tampa was complicated by more than Jennings’ own struggles. Midway through the first quarter, All-Pro linebacker Fred Warner suffered a severe right ankle dislocation and fracture, a season-ending injury that shifted the entire complexion of the game and the 49ers’ defense moving forward. Jennings acknowledged the emotional weight of the moment.
“Just made me sick,” he said of Warner’s injury. “We’ve still got to drive the boat, captains have got to lead the way. Everybody else has to step up.”
Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed relief that Jennings was able to take the field at all, though acknowledged the receiver’s performance reflected his physical limitations. “I was pumped that he was able to go,” Shanahan said. “But now he’s struggling to go every week now.”
Jennings carries particular motivation this season as his contract expires after the year. Last season, he played in a career year with 77 receptions for 975 yards and six touchdowns when Brandon Aiyuk went down with an ACL tear. A contract extension or free agency deal depends heavily on his ability to demonstrate availability and production—circumstances that have complicated his 2025 campaign before it truly gained momentum.
The 49ers will continue their prep for Atlanta throughout the week. Jennings is scheduled for additional practice sessions on Thursday and Friday, giving the team a clearer picture of his status heading into Sunday Night Football. The Falcons enter Week 7 at 3-2 after an upset victory over Buffalo.
