Jameis Winston Signs Two-Year Extension With Giants

New York Giants quarterback Jameis Winston has agreed to a two-year, $13 million contract extension, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. The new deal keeps Winston with the Giants through the 2028 season, an adjustment from the two-year, $8 million contract he originally signed with New York in 2025.

Schultz didn’t hold back in explaining the move. “Winston has become invaluable to the Giants’ QB room as a leader, a key part of Jaxson Dart’s development, and someone the organization views as the best backup QB in football,” Schultz reported. That kind of praise reflects a role that’s become increasingly important in New York, particularly given how willingly Dart has absorbed contact as a runner through his rookie season, a trait that puts a premium on having a trusted, capable backup ready to step in.

Winston appeared in three games and made two starts in 2025, completing 37 of 66 passes for 567 yards, two touchdowns, and two interceptions. The Giants lost both of his starts, though not entirely due to any fault of his own. Beyond the numbers, Winston has earned a reputation in the building as a steadying presence, both in the film room and in the locker room, the kind of veteran influence that matters for a young quarterback room working under a new coaching staff led by head coach John Harbaugh and offensive coordinator Matt Nagy.

Dart remains firmly established as New York’s franchise quarterback and unquestioned starter heading into his second season. But locking up an experienced, well-regarded backup for multiple additional years gives the Giants real insurance and continuity behind him, a valuable piece of roster construction that doesn’t always get much attention until it’s needed.

For a team that also brought in Russell Wilson last offseason before eventually parting ways with him, settling on Winston as the long-term backup solution reflects real confidence in what he’s brought to the organization both on and off the field. With the extension in place, New York has its No. 2 quarterback situation settled for the foreseeable future.
