Cardinals News: Jacoby Brissett Gets New Contract
Arizona Cardinals quarterback Jacoby Brissett has agreed to revised compensation for 2026, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network. The new terms are worth $15.5 million, with incentives that could push the total to $21 million.
The deal resolves a months-long standoff that began in mid-April, when Brissett, acting as his own agent, sought a raise on a contract that guaranteed him just $1.5 million for the season. He stayed away from voluntary OTAs and was still without a resolution heading into mandatory minicamp, ultimately reporting for training camp under the previous terms before the sides came to an agreement.
Brissett had already been informed by the team that he would enter the season as Arizona’s starter, a status that predates this new contract. The Cardinals released Kyler Murray in March, and new head coach Mike LaFleur has consistently backed Brissett throughout the offseason. The financial dispute was about pay, not job security, though the raise does reflect the value the team places on him after his performance last season.
Brissett started the final 12 games for the Cardinals in 2025 and appeared in 14 overall, completing 64.9% of his passes for a career-high 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. Much of that production came after he stepped in for an injured and struggling Murray in Week 6, and his strong finish to the season, including a stretch of nine starts with a 21-to-7 touchdown-to-interception ratio, made the case for another opportunity in 2026.
Gardner Minshew II and third-round rookie Carson Beck now sit behind him on the depth chart. Beck, drafted out of Miami, is not expected to push for the starting job immediately, though his development will be worth monitoring as the season progresses.
The resolved contract situation keeps Brissett firmly entrenched as Arizona’s Week 1 starter and removes a distraction heading into the regular season. For fantasy purposes, the secured job keeps him relevant in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues, though his value remains tied more to passing volume than any real rushing upside.
