New York Jets running back Breece Hall is questionable to play Sunday at Cincinnati due to a knee injury. Head coach Aaron Glenn confirmed Hall’s uncertain status for the Week 8 road contest against the Bengals.
Hall suffered the injury during the Jets’ Week 7 home loss to the Carolina Panthers. He left the game briefly but returned to finish the contest. Glenn described the injury as minor and labeled Hall as day-to-day. The fourth-year running back participated in practice Wednesday and Thursday on a limited basis. His status for Sunday will depend on how his knee responds to additional work Friday.
Hall has been one of the Jets’ few offensive bright spots in a difficult season. He ranks in the top 20 among NFL running backs with 4.5 yards per carry. However, Hall is the only player in the league with 50 or more touches and zero touchdowns this season.
If Hall cannot play, Isaiah Davis will assume starting duties in the backfield. Backup running back Braelon Allen is out eight to 12 weeks after suffering a knee injury that required him to be placed on injured reserve. Davis would see significantly increased playing time against Cincinnati.
The Jets face additional offensive challenges beyond Hall’s status. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson has been ruled out for his second consecutive game with a hyperextended knee. Wilson leads New York with 36 receptions for 395 yards and four touchdowns through six games.
The quarterback situation remains fluid for Glenn’s team. Tyrod Taylor is listed as questionable with a knee injury of his own. Taylor replaced Justin Fields during the second half of the Panthers loss. Fields had completed only six of 12 passes for 46 yards through two quarters before being benched.
Glenn has not officially named a starting quarterback for Sunday’s game. If Taylor cannot play, Fields would return to the starting role by default. The Jets also have practice squad quarterback Brady Cook available if needed. New York travels to Cincinnati carrying an 0-7 record. The Jets are the only winless team remaining in the NFL this season. They have scored just seven offensive touchdowns in their last six games.
The Bengals enter the contest with a 3-4 record after defeating Pittsburgh in Week 7. Cincinnati will be playing at home in front of its fans at Paycor Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 PM Eastern Time on Sunday.
Glenn expressed optimism about Hall’s chances to play despite the injury designation. The Jets will make a final determination on Hall’s availability after reviewing his practice work throughout the week. The team will release its inactive list 90 minutes before kickoff.
New York’s offensive line has struggled all season, allowing 31 sacks through seven games. That total leads the entire NFL. Hall has still managed respectable rushing numbers despite facing consistent pressure in the backfield.
