New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers will miss the remainder of the 2025 season after an MRI confirmed a torn right ACL on Monday.
Nabers suffered the injury in the second quarter of Sunday’s 21-18 victory over the Los Angeles Chargers at MetLife Stadium. He leaped for a deep pass from rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart down the right sideline and landed awkwardly on his right leg. Nabers grabbed his knee immediately and remained on the turf for several moments before being carted off the field. An offside penalty on the Chargers nullified the play.
The second-year receiver had two catches for 20 yards before leaving the contest. He tallied 16 receptions for 251 yards and two touchdowns in the first three games of the season. Nabers caught 109 passes for 1204 yards and seven touchdowns as a rookie in 2024 after being selected sixth overall in the draft. He earned Pro Bowl honors despite playing on an offense that struggled throughout the season.
The injury occurred in Dart’s first NFL start. The rookie quarterback was making his debut after the Giants benched veteran Russell Wilson following a 0-3 start. Dart completed 13 of 20 passes for 111 yards with one passing touchdown and one rushing touchdown in the victory. He scored on a 15-yard run on the Giants’ opening drive and later connected with tight end Theo Johnson on a three-yard shovel pass for his first career touchdown throw.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll declined to confirm the severity of the injury after Sunday’s game but acknowledged its significance. He said injuries happen in professional football, and the team would rely on other receivers to step up. Dart echoed similar sentiments while expressing concern for Nabers.
Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton are expected to assume larger roles in the passing game. Robinson caught three passes on five targets for 14 yards against the Chargers. Slayton led the Giants with three catches on four targets for 44 yards. The veteran has played at least 97 percent of offensive snaps in the first two games before his usage decreased in Week 3.
Jalin Hyatt will serve as the third receiver. The 2023 second-round pick has caught eight passes for 62 yards in 16 games this season. Robinson finished last season with 93 receptions for 699 yards and three touchdowns, while Slayton contributed 39 catches for 573 yards and two scores.
The Giants face the New Orleans Saints on the road in Week 5 on Sunday, October 5, at 1 p.m. Eastern time. The victory over the Chargers was New York’s 750th franchise win and first against Los Angeles since 1998. The Giants improved to 1-3 on the season.
The timing of the injury is particularly difficult for both Nabers and the Giants. The team had hoped Dart and Nabers would develop into a productive combination over the rest of the season. Nabers will now work toward recovering in time for the start of the 2026 campaign.
