Seahawks News: George Holani Expected to Handle Passing-Down Work

Seattle Seahawks running back George Holani is seeing extended work with the first-team offense on passing downs while Zach Charbonnet remains on the PUP list. Gregg Bell of The News Tribune reports that Holani and rookie Jadarian Price have split most of the early-camp snaps with the starters, with Holani in position to handle third-down and two-minute duties while Price takes on a larger share of the early-down workload.

That gives Holani a defined lane in Seattle’s backfield, though it’s worth noting this remains a camp competition rather than a settled arrangement. Multiple reports indicate the third-down role could still go to whichever back proves more reliable in pass protection, an area where Price, as a rookie, is still developing, and where even Charbonnet posted a career-worst grade last season.

The 5-foot-11, 210-pound Holani had 22 carries for 73 yards in 2025, a modest workload behind Charbonnet and Kenneth Walker III. His role expanded during the postseason once Charbonnet went down, and he responded by catching four passes for 34 yards over Seattle’s final two playoff games, evidence that the coaching staff trusts him in passing situations when called upon.

None of this changes the bigger picture for Price, who remains the favorite for the larger overall share of Seattle’s backfield touches and the presumed leader at running back once camp settles. Holani’s carve-out is specifically about passing-down work, not a broader threat to Price’s standing as the team’s top back in a run-heavy Seattle offense.

Holani is not yet a clear redraft target on his own, but his path to a defined passing-down role makes him worth monitoring in deeper PPR leagues, particularly if Charbonnet’s return is delayed further into the season.
