The following 10 teams are currently in the top 10 in standard scoring leagues. I’ve laid out their playoff recommendation (HOLD – keep this team or DROP – time to find a new DST) and any additions to maximize your DST spot for the playoffs.
If any of the below teams are available in your league, grab them immediately (minus NY Giants).

Denver

So You Don’t Have a Top 10 DST…
[the_ad id=”58837″]Before you go any further, if New England or NY Jets are available on your waiver wire, pick them up now. These two teams are currently not in the top 10 of standard scoring leagues but are projected to be top 10 DSTs in the fantasy playoffs. If those two teams aren’t available (and no current top 10 teams are available), if you don’t have the roster space for two DSTs, and/or if you cannot make waiver claims in your fantasy playoffs, the top team to grab is …
The Buffalo Bills
The Bills are projected to be the 11th best DST for the final three weeks of the fantasy season with matchups versus Philadelphia, Washington, and Dallas.
Before the season started, you probably wouldn’t have wanted to target three NFC East offenses. However, Philadelphia and Washington are top-5 in giveaways and Dallas, well, they have Matt Cassel.
Do you have room for 2 DST roster spots?
If so, here are the best combinations to pick up for weeks 14-16:
- Pittsburgh & Green Bay (Avg Weekly Rank: 7.0)
- Pittsburgh & Buffalo (Avg Weekly Rank: 7.7)
- Houston & Green Bay (Avg Weekly Rank: 7.7)
- Pittsburgh & Cleveland (Avg Weekly Rank: 8.0)
- Pittsburgh & Philadelphia (Avg Weekly Rank: 8.3)
- Philadelphia & Green Bay (Avg Weekly Rank: 8.3)
- Houston & Cleveland (Avg Weekly Rank: 8.7)
Streamers?
If you have the ability to pick up free agents in weeks 14-16, here are the top additions for each week. If you go this route, you can actually have a top-5 defense each week of your fantasy playoffs!
Week 14
- Green Bay Packers vs. Dallas (Projected Rank: 5)
- Cleveland Browns vs. San Francisco (Projected Rank: 8)
Week 15
- Pittsburgh Steelers vs. Denver (Projected Rank: 4)
- Minnesota Vikings vs. Chicago (Projected Rank: 9)
Week 16
- Houston Texans at Tennessee (Projected Rank: 3)
- Buffalo Bills vs. Dallas (Projected Rank: 5)
- Detroit Lions vs. San Francisco (Projected Rank: 7)
- Tennessee Titans vs. Houston (Projected Rank: 8)
- Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington (Projected Rank: 9)
In Conclusion
You have A LOT of options for your DST in the fantasy playoffs. Don’t sit around and be content with one defense! Sure, it may only gain you a point or two, but every point is crucial when you’re competing for a championship.

Does your Buffalo ranking change with Moore under center? Have Pats but can’t decide between Buffalo or Lions DST.
Great article.

Does your secret formula look at the whole season stats or is weighted? Reason I ask is KC plays Baltimore in week 15 and when I think Schaub I think pick 6 as opposed to Flacco who was Qb for the first 11 weeks.
Thanks,
Joe
