Best Fantasy Football Books For 2018

2018 Fantasy Football Books Recommendations

The fantasy football industry grows dramatically every year. Innovative new league formats spring up almost daily, creating a micro niche for a fantasy football guru to emerge. This year alone I’ve been apart of a number of creative league draft startups. Some of these leagues are IDP (defensive players), some are paragon leagues (32 owners with two copies of every NFL player) and some of these leagues just have complex scoring elements.

As it seems, fantasy football has become an ice cream parlor with endless flavor options. While there is nothing wrong with a scoop of vanilla with sprinkles on top, most fantasy football commissioners are getting clever with adding new wrinkles and scoring formats to league rules making draft strategies imperative.

However, even as complex as things are getting, and with the high volume of available free content at our disposal, there is still nothing like reading a great fantasy football book. Summertime means weekend getaways, beach days and escapes from the office. If you have the goal of getting unplugged from technology this summer, you still need to stay in the zone for your much anticipated Fantasy Football Draft. The following are some great 2018 fantasy football book recommendations that I think you should check out.

The Fantasy Football Black Book 2018 (Fantasy Black Book)

Written by: Joseph Pisapia, Jake Ciely, Matt Franciscovich, Gary Davenport, Nate Hamilton, Sammy Reid

Fantasy Football BooksThe 11-time #1 Best-Selling fantasy sports author and Winner of the FSTA Fantasy Radio Show of the Year, Joe Pisapia, is back again for the NFL season with the… ALL NEW Fantasy Football Black Book 2018 Edition! Joe’s revolutionary player evaluation tool Relative Position Value (RPV) has changed the game. For the 12th Black Book, Joe has assembled a Pro Bowl Roster! This year’s contributors: Jake Ciely – Expert Ranker & Senior Fantasy Writer from RotoExperts, FSTA Award Winner Matt Franciscovich – Formerly of NFL.com and now EA Sports Gary

I reached out to Joseph Pisapia and Nate Hamilton to get more info about this fantasy football book and what you can expect.

Question: What can readers expect with this Fantasy Football Book?

Joseph: In an era where so much information is handed (practically force fed) to league owners on their league host sites, there’s very little that one can do to separate themselves from the herd. My Relative Position Value (RPV) system actually quantifies position scarcity and is the most comprehensive value based draft system available. The useless “Top 100 Lists” and opinion based coverage, although sometimes well informed, is still an opinion. RPV goes past that. It backs up those opinions with cold hard MATH and shows you how significant the drop off is from player to player at each position. Tiers with justification! RPV is also simple to understand, applicable and adaptable to ALL league formats/styles and most importantly works. I believe in strategy over opinion and the Black Book is heavy on how to approach value in all formats. When I released the first Fantasy Black Book seven years ago with zero fanfare, it went to #1 in Fantasy Sports on Amazon and subsequently 11 books later (between baseball and football) it’s grown exponentially every year. That’s the clear indication it’s working for the masses and they keep coming back because of their success.

Question: Tell me about what your role in this Book and how it can help fantasy owners win in 2018?

Nate: I give you one player that is overvalued and one undervalued from each fantasy-relevant position (QB, WR, RB, TE). I am passionate about my choices and feel very confident the information will help you in your 2018 fantasy football leagues! I also dive into the tight end position and give analysis on 20 or so TEs. I separate them into different categories, essentially tiering out the position. There is plenty of information on each featured tight end to give you a better sense of what you can expect from each in 2018. Lastly, I wrote about the kicker position. I know, I’m not a fan either, but believe it or not, there are plenty of leagues that still roster them. Whether you use kickers or ignore them, it’s worth a read as the data I came across for kickers and the fantasy value they provide will surprise you.

Question: Is there a specific league format (PPR, 2QB etc) that your book would benefit from more?

Joseph: The great thing about The Fantasy Football Black Book 2018 is that it is adaptable and applicable for all formats, from PPR to Superflex, from DFS to Best Ball. We cover everything, and RPV is the tool I use to prove the strategy and no other guide can do that so definitively. Most folks play in multiple styles of fantasy football, so you need to offer a full-service system to cover ALL bases and the Black Book does that. I believe format dictates player value more than the player’s talent. It’s exploiting formats and scoring systems that bring you championships, not painting value with a wide brush. You need to have precision and attack each format correctly for ultimate success.

Bob Lung brings everything you need to learn, understand and implement consistency for your Fantasy teams!

I reached out to Bob for a quick chat on Twitter to get more info about his book and what you can expect.

Question: How long have you been playing Fantasy Football?

Bob: I have been playing Fantasy Football since 1985. It was a TD only league due to no internet. The same league still exists today with 8 of the 12 original members in it. And yes, it’s still TD only.

Question: How does your Fantasy Football Book help someone win their league in 2018?

Bob: The Guide will help Fantasy owners understand the importance of identifying Consistent and Inconsistent players in their Fantasy leagues. By making their team more consistent overall, it will help them win those few games that they seem to miss the playoffs by every year. And if you make the playoffs, you can win the title!

Question: Is there a specific league format that your book would benefit from more?

Bob: It focuses primarily on PPR, but we did add articles this year that focus on the Standard leagues. However, they can also go to the website (bigguyfantasysports.com) and go to the Tool section. They can enter their scoring method for their league into the Consistency Report to see who were the most consistent players in their league in the past.

Stunning visualizations built with the reader in mind and innovative, next level thought process abound in every team chapter and article. This book shares insights into the players, coaches, teams and philosophies with one goal in mind: to get you prepared for the 2018 season by delivering the smartest information in the fastest, most direct way possible for optimal reviewing and retention.

Welcome to previewing the NFL through a lens you’ve never witnessed before.

Who is Warren Sharp?

Warren Sharp owns the site SharpFootballStats.com.

As described on his bio, Ten years ago, he attempted to develop a computer program which would accurately predict outcomes of NFL games and thus, the ability to spot “value” in the lines released by Vegas. Spurred by his love for the game and my competitive nature, and by years of watching and studying the NFL, Warren Sharp already had an uncanny knack for intuitively looking at two teams and predicting which team would cover the spread.

During the time he was creating the program, Sharp was picking games on his own using other non-computer based methods with a high degree of certainty, both ATS, and totals. When he finally perfected my computer program and combined its precision with his own abilities to personally select high probability plays, those who followed his plays reaped the rewards.
