Eagles News: Dontayvion Wicks in Serious Competition for No. 2 Wide Receiver Role
Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks is in serious competition for the No. 2 wide receiver role in the Eagles’ offense, according to Eliot Shorr-Parks of 94.1 WIP. The Eagles are entering the next phase of their passing game after trading A.J. Brown to the New England Patriots in June, leaving DeVonta Smith as the clear top target.
Philadelphia acquired Wicks in a trade with Green Bay earlier this offseason and signed him to a one-year, $12.5 million extension. The team also selected Makai Lemon with the 20th overall pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. The two will battle for the No. 2 role during training camp, which opens with its first practice on July 29, though Hollywood Brown and Elijah Moore, both free agent additions, remain part of the broader competition for snaps in a reshaped receiver room.
Wicks turned heads during the offseason program and earned praise from both players and coaches, including a favorable comparison to Keenan Allen from head coach Nick Sirianni. Lemon, meanwhile, missed the bulk of OTAs and minicamp with a hamstring injury, though he’s expected to be fully healthy for the start of camp. That absence gave Wicks a clear runway to establish himself as the No. 2 option throughout the spring.
With training camp now the deciding factor, Wicks has a real chance to win the role outright. His size, at 6-foot-1 and 206 pounds, gives him a different look than most of Philadelphia’s other receiver options, and his familiarity with new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion, who also came over from Green Bay, could give him an edge in picking up the new system quickly.
If Wicks locks down the No. 2 job and builds chemistry with Jalen Hurts, he has a real path to becoming one of the more attractive value plays in fantasy drafts this summer, especially given his modest current price relative to the target volume up for grabs in Philadelphia’s revamped passing game.
