D’Andre Swift Fantasy Impact in 2023

D’Andre Swift Fantasy
As the 2023 NFL season approaches, it’s time to start identifying players who have the potential to make a significant impact on their teams. One player who stands out in this regard is D’Andre Swift, now playing for the Philadelphia Eagles. I wanted to analyze his impact compared to his Average Draft Position (ADP).
I currently have Swift ranked 55th overall for PPR leagues, which puts him right around the middle of the fifth round for 12-team leagues. His current ADP is 70th overall, a full round later than where I have him ranked. I think Swift is a great value in the sixth round. Let’s examine the reasons why.
Swift missed three games last season and only received a 41.8% snap share, but in terms of efficiency, he ranked second in both yards per touch and yards created per touch. He was able to maximize his opportunities and make significant gains whenever he touched the ball. Swift also ranked fifth in breakaway run rate, showcasing his explosiveness and big-play potential. His ability to break free makes him a threat to score from anywhere on the field, which makes him ideal for Best Ball rosters.

One concern that arises when evaluating Swift’s potential for the 2023 season is the possibility of decreased production due to a change in offensive systems. While playing for the Detroit Lions, Swift’s pass-catching abilities were heavily utilized, resulting in consistent production as a receiver out of the backfield. He finished sixth among running backs with a 15.1% target share last year. However, with the Eagles, it remains to be seen if he will be utilized in the same manner. If his involvement in the passing game is diminished, it could lead to a decrease in his overall fantasy production.
Despite this potential obstacle, Swift’s versatility as a multi-threat running back remains a significant asset. Over the past three seasons, he has consistently accumulated over 300 yards receiving, showcasing his ability to impact the game both on the ground and through the air. This versatility not only increases his value in fantasy football but also makes him a dynamic weapon for the Eagles offense. He can be used to neutralize linebackers and exploit mismatches in the passing game, as well as excel in different running schemes that capitalize on his strengths as a runner.
Another factor that bodes well for Swift’s potential impact in 2023 is the departure of Miles Sanders in free agency. With Sanders gone, Swift is expected to take on the role of the lead back in Philadelphia. This shift in the backfield hierarchy provides him with an excellent opportunity to receive a significant number of touches and establish himself as a primary contributor to the Eagles’ rushing attack. Additionally, the Eagles have a strong rushing attack overall, which should provide Swift with ample opportunities to produce both on the ground and as a pass-catcher.
D’Andre Swift figures to be a solid RB2 option in fantasy football for the upcoming 2023 season. He possesses the skill set to make a significant impact in both the running and passing games, and his track record of consistent production reinforces his value. Injury risks are always a concern with Swift, who has not played more than 14 games since entering the league. However, that risk is baked into his ADP and if he stays healthy, he should far outperform that.
