[the_ad id=”105842″]Dallas Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb could return to action Sunday against the Washington Commanders after missing three consecutive games with a high-ankle sprain. Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones said Monday on 105.3 The Fan that Lamb has a chance to play in the Week 7 contest at AT&T Stadium.
Lamb suffered the injury early in the first quarter of Dallas’ Week 3 loss to the Chicago Bears on September 21. The star receiver took a handoff from the backfield when Bears linebacker Noah Sewell fell on his left ankle during the tackle. The play was negated by offsetting penalties. Lamb attempted to return for one play at the start of the second quarter but was immediately removed from the game after struggling to push off during a motion route. He finished the contest without a reception after playing just six snaps.
Team officials initially estimated a three-to-four-week recovery timeline for the high-ankle sprain. Jones said Monday that Lamb is among a group of injured players, including wide receiver KaVontae Turpin and rookie guard Tyler Booker, who could potentially return for the division game against Washington. Jones made clear the Cowboys would base playing decisions on how each player progresses through practice this week.
The Cowboys have gone 1-1-1 during Lamb’s absence. Wide receiver George Pickens has elevated his production as the primary target in the passing game. Pickens has caught 10 passes for 191 yards and three touchdowns over the past two games. Jalen Tolbert, Jake Ferguson, and rookie Ryan Flournoy have also contributed to the offense.
Lamb entered the season as one of the league’s most productive receivers after posting 135 catches for 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns in 2023. He started this season with 16 receptions for 222 yards through two games before the injury. The four-time Pro Bowl selection has missed just five games total in his five-year career prior to this injury.
Turpin also figures prominently in the return discussion. The All-Pro returner and versatile offensive weapon has missed the past two games with a foot sprain suffered in Week 4 against Green Bay. Turpin said last week he was targeting a Week 7 return against Washington. He has 11 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown this season while also handling return duties.
The Commanders visit Arlington on Sunday, October 19, for a 3:25 PM kickoff on FOX. Dallas holds a 2-3-1 record heading into the divisional matchup. Washington enters with a different record in the NFC East standings. The Cowboys and Commanders split their season series last year.
The team will release its first official injury report Wednesday. That report will indicate whether Lamb has progressed to limited practice participation or remains sidelined for additional rehabilitation work.
