The Cleveland Browns re-signed MLB D’Qwell Jackson to a five-year contract Monday.
The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports Jackson will receive $42.5 million, including $19 million in guarantees and bonuses. Jackson is 28 years old and racked up 158 tackles last season as one of the Comeback Player of the Year candidates.
The Dick Jauron’s 4-3 defense is going to be tweaked this off-season, yet keeping D’Qwell Jackson was a top priority. The Browns are gambling this contract pans out as Jackson is a high risk player for injury. It’s not easy handing over a heavy contract to a player who has missed 26 games due to injury in 2009-10. The Browns likely have an out clause in the deal, yet are optimistic they get another productive season out of Jackson.
