Jets News: Braelon Allen To Step Up

New York Jets running back Braelon Allen should see more touches if Breece Hall misses time with a thigh injury. Hall got hurt in Sunday’s 31-24 loss to the Detroit Lions and did not return.

Hall was hurt with 11:17 left in the fourth quarter on a run inside the Lions’ 5-yard line, with Detroit leading 24-16. He finished with 13 carries for 32 yards and three catches for 23 yards. The Jets scored a touchdown on the next play but missed the two-point conversion. Hall was recently signed to a three-year, $43.5 million extension.

Hall described the injury after the game. “I don’t know (the severity) yet. I felt something when I was running and then got tackled and planted and then felt something else, so we’ll see,” he told ESPN’s Rich Cimini. He also said, “It sucks, but part of the game. It just sucks.”

Allen took over after Hall left. He carried four times for 14 yards. Reports differ on his receiving total. NBC Sports reported three catches for 3 yards, for 17 yards from scrimmage. Isaiah Davis was active but did not record a carry or a catch.

The Jets trailed by 14 points when Hall got hurt and tied the game at 24 before Detroit’s Jahmyr Gibbs scored the go-ahead touchdown with 2:25 left. New York fell to 1-2. The team beat Tennessee 23-10 in Week 1 and lost to Green Bay in overtime, 20-17, in Week 2.

Neither Hall, Allen nor Davis carried an injury designation on the Jets’ final report before Sunday’s game. Hall’s Week 4 status is still unknown. If he sits, Allen and Davis would be the running backs on the active roster behind him.
