Nix was low on the depth chart entering training camp and NFL preseason, but he quickly outperformed quarterbacks Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson. After trading Russell Wilson earlier in the offseason, the Broncos wanted a quarterback with long-term potential. Wilson had a terrible habit of holding the ball for too long, which is the complete opposite of Head Coach Sean Payton’s offensive scheme. Payton wants the ball out quickly in a dink-and-dunk offense, which Bo Nix thrives in.
Nix played college ball with the Auburn Tigers for three seasons before transferring to the Oregon Ducks in 2022. Nix had a 71.9 completion percentage in his first year with the Oregon Ducks and 77.4% last year.
Nix makes quick decisions at the line and goes through this progressions like a pro. He understands defenses and should thrive under Sean Payton’s tutelage.
The Broncos’ offensive depth and talent is better than most people understand. The offense was lifeless, with Russell Wilson under center. His departure is a much-needed fresh start for the team as a whole. PFF ranked the Broncos’ offensive line 15th entering this season, which is much higher than what most people would have predicted. The front office has tried to draft young talent to help the team grow; however, Nix was the first selection in the first round in three years. The team burned a lot of picks, making the trade to acquire Russell Wilson.
The Broncos may be a year away from being a competitive team; however, some feel there is undersealed talent on this roster that could surprise credits this season.
