Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver A.J. Brown’s future with the franchise has become a topic of speculation following the team’s wild-card loss to San Francisco. Multiple NFL executives believe the organization could consider moving the 28-year-old during the offseason. Brown finished the 2025 regular season with 78 receptions for 1,003 yards and seven touchdowns in 15 games. He led the Eagles with 121 targets. The performance marked his fourth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign with Philadelphia and his sixth such season in seven years.
The three-time Pro Bowler struggled in the playoff loss. Brown dropped several passes and was involved in a heated sideline exchange with head coach Nick Sirianni. He declined to speak with reporters after the game.
Brown’s relationship with the organization has shown signs of strain throughout the season. He expressed frustration with his role despite reaching the 1,000-yard milestone. The receiver posted on social media after a September win over Tampa Bay, leading to questions about his commitment.
Brown joined the Eagles in 2022 after Philadelphia acquired him from Tennessee in a draft-day trade. He produced immediate results. Brown set a franchise record with 1,496 receiving yards in his first season. He followed with 1,456 yards in 2023. His 2022 and 2023 campaigns combined for 2,952 yards and 18 total touchdowns. Brown became the first Eagles receiver to post four consecutive 1,000-yard seasons. He caught a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl LIX victory over Kansas City.
Contract Makes Things Difficult
Brown signed a three-year extension worth $96 million before the 2024 season. The deal keeps him under contract through 2029. However, his guaranteed money ends after 2026. A trade after June 1 would leave Philadelphia with $16.35 million in dead cap space in 2026 and $27.16 million in 2027. Several teams could pursue Brown if he becomes available. The Patriots hired former Titans coach Mike Vrabel, who worked with Brown from 2019 to 2021. Buffalo needs receiving help after another early playoff exit. Denver has cap flexibility following Russell Wilson’s departure.
Brown was drafted in the second round by Tennessee in 2019. He caught 52 passes for 1,051 yards and eight touchdowns as a member. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2020 after recording 70 receptions for 1,075 yards and 11 touchdowns. Brown missed time in 2021 with injuries and finished with 869 yards.
Owner Jeffrey Lurie met with Brown during the season to discuss his frustrations. The conversation was reported as positive. Brown maintained he trusts Hurts despite the on-field struggles.
The Eagles must now determine whether to repair the relationship or explore trade options. General manager Howie Roseman typically prefers to acquire talent rather than trade established stars. The decision will shape Philadelphia’s offensive approach for 2026.
