Who’s Got The Best Football Voice?
One of my favorite things about watching football has to be the epic play. The game changing last minute huge pass or run that makes everyone jump out of their seat.
Maybe you don’t remember when it happened, or who you were sitting next to on the couch when it did, but the classic highlight reel moment is burned into your memory forever. Guys are always forgetting birthdays and anniversaries, but ask any football fan what the “Music City Miracle” was or if they saw “McNabb’s 14 second scramble” and odds are they can give you a play by play of what happened. Over the years I’ve realized that one of the things that doesn’t get enough credit (in my opinion) is the announcer that called that last second play that will go in the vault for years to come. The football “voice” is not something that can be practiced, most fans who try talking during a huge play end up speaking in tongues, or sound like a caveman with grunts and yells that are more noise than words. People all know John Madden, Al Michaels, even Cris Collinsworth, but do you know the name Gus Johnson? If you do know the name, then you know that his big play voice can only be summarized with one word: awesome.
