Week 14 Waiver Wire Adds
James Starks (RB) Green Bay (owned in 18% of Yahoo leagues)- The Packers may finally have found a suitable replacement for Ryan Grant. After being on the PUP list for the first six weeks of 2010 Starks finally got on the field and delivered in a big way. Last week he rushed 18 times for 73 yards while Brandon Jackson only got 4 carries.
Look for the Packers to use a three or four man committee in the backfield. Brandon Jackson will play on passing downs while John Kuhn and Dimitri Nance could still have roles as short yardage vultures. But the rookie Starks has the most upside and is likely to see the majority of handoffs. He’ll be especially valuable when the winter weather hits.
Rashad Jennings (RB) Jacksonville (98%)- Jacksonville has really been running the ball very effectively over the last month. Instead of just being a hand-cuff to Maurice Jones-Drew, Jennings has been getting plenty of work too. He has scored in back to back games and has rushed for 97 yards.
The Jaguars are leading the AFC South and will no doubt stick with a two back system if it can get them close to 200 rushing yards per game. In Week 14 the Jags host the Oakland Raiders who are 23rd in the NFL against the run.
Javarris James (RB) Indianapolis (95%)- The Colts inability to establish an effective running game is well documented. But Indianapolis remains an explosive offense that puts up tons of points. They will spend plenty of time around the goal line. James is the clear choice for the Colts in that area. He has scored five touchdowns in the last five games. With Indy also suffering from severe injuries there has been speculation that James could start seeing more carries in the offense.
The Colts play Tennessee this week in a Thursday night game. There’s been some signs that the Titans have stopped giving maximum effort since the situation between Jeff Fisher and Vince Young. Indianapolis also is playing for their playoff lives so look for James to have several chances to get the ball into the end zone.
Earl Bennett (WR ) Chicago (87%)- The Bears switch to a more conservative rushing offense has had some surprising benefits for Bennett. Over the last two games he as caught 11 of 13 targets for 160 yards and two touchdowns. Jay Cutler seems to be looking for him on shorter and intermediate routes.
Chicago plays at home this week against a very weak New England Patriots pass defense so Bennett has a good shot a putting up some very quality fantasy statistics.
Emmanuel Sanders (WR) Pittsburgh (98%)- Over the last month Sanders has been getting a lot more playing time for the Steelers. He’s averaged six targets and has scored in back to back games at Heinz Field
With Heath Miller out for Week 14 Sanders could see a season high for targets. The Steelers don’t have another pass catching tight end, so Sanders will be counted on to pick up the slack in three receiver sets.
Roy Williams (WR) Dallas (51%)- Dez Bryant is lost for the season with a fractured ankle. Expect Jon Kitna to look to Roy Williams to pick up where Bryant left off. Williams is the most likely of all the Dallas receivers to become featured in and around the red zone.
In Week 14 Dallas plays a banged up Philadelphia secondary that hast been struggling to defend the pass. This game is likely to be a shoot out and Williams is a good candidate for a plug and play.
Brandon Gibson (WR) St. Louis (98%)- Gibson is very quietly leading the Rams in receiving. Over the last month he is averaging five and a half catches and nearly fifty yards per game. Because of the way Sam Bradford spreads the ball around Gibson isn’t likely to break out with a huge game, but he can be counted on to consistently produce five or six fantasy points per week.
Ed Dickson (TE) Baltimore (99%)- Todd Heap got hurt last week and will miss Baltimore’s Week 14 matchup. It’s as good as a game can get for a tight end. The Ravens play a Houston Texans team that ranks dead last in the NFL in terms of giving up fantasy points to tight ends.
The third round rookie has shown that he can produce when given the chance. Playing as the second tight end he has caught eight passes for 112 yards. After Heap was hurt last week against the Steelers, Dickson got seven target from Joe Flacco.
Benjamin Watson (TE) Cleveland (59%)- Watson will be a very popular pick-up in fantasy leagues this week. In Week 13 he had an impressive 10 catch 100 yard and one touchdown performance against a very good Miami Dolphins defense. He’s been a consistent producer all season and has caught 50 balls for 574 yards and three scores.
In Week 14 the Browns will play in Orchard Park against the Bills. With weather likely to be a factor, Watson makes a nice target on play action passes around the goal line. Buffalo is tied with the Houston Texans for the lead in touchdowns surrendered to tight ends.
