Top 5 Destinations For LaDainian Tomlinson
Top 5 Destinations For LaDainian Tomlinson
LaDainian Tomlinson is a free agent and is in the process of finding a new team. There are many teams within the league that would love to have him join their backfields. Only problem is that Tomlinson has the power to dictate where he may end up. Not only will he be looking for a legitimate Super Bowl contender to play for, he will also be looking to get paid. This could be Tomlinson’s final chance to cash in on a good deal. After taking a look at the teams that would be in need of his services, I decided to narrow the field down to five teams.
The Criteria: Potential Super Bowl contenders, a need for a running back, and a desire for the team to sign LT to a contract to more than one year.
5) New York Jets – With the release of Thomas Jones the bulk of the workload will be distributed to Shonn Greene. However, the team could use another solid back to pound the ball into the end zone and for short yardage purposes. Leon Washington was re-signed, but he is more of a third down back and will be used a lot on special teams. There have been reports of the possibility of Jones re-signing with the team, but he is going to be visiting with other teams lessening the likelihood of him going back to New York.
4) Pittsburgh Steelers – With Willie Parker testing free agency the Steelers are going to be looking for a backup running back for Rashard Mendenhall. This is an overall solid team both on defense and offense. Tomlinson would instantly improve the backfield situation for the Steelers and he would love playing for a team that would be willing to rely more on the run.
3) Green Bay Packers – The Packers are a team that is going to rely more on the pass than the run, but the addition of Tomlinson would give their offense an added threat. Ryan Grant has played decent for the Pack over the past few years, but there has been some wear and tear on him. With Tomlinson on board the Packers could lessen Grant’s workload and easily have a great one, two punch in the backfield.
2) Philadelphia Eagles – The Eagles are now in need of a veteran running back to take some of the work load off of LeSean McCoy. This is a situation that could be perfect for Tomlinson as he would likely get more playing time than some other destination. McCoy is a good back, but keeping him fresh is going to be key for the Eagles. Not only would Philadelphia be a good place for Tomlinson to play, but I have a feeling the people from the city of Brotherly Love would welcome him with open arms.
1) Minnesota Vikings – The recent loss of Chester Taylor to the Bears has left a void in the Vikings backfield. Taylor was able to come into the game whenever Adrian Peterson needed a breather or had an ill timed fumble. Although Tomlinson was once the league’s most dominating running back filling the role left void by Taylor’s departure would be ideal for Tomlinson. Not only would Tomlinson not have to carry a full workload he would definitely get his fair share of carries in the Vikings backfield. One key factor that could make or break a possible signing with the Vikings is whether or not Favre returns for another season. A few years ago any fantasy owner would have loved to have a backfield of Tomlinson and Peterson on their team. Now this tandem could become a reality for an actual NFL team.
