Top 10 Fantasy Quarterback Rankings

Top 10 Fantasy Quarterback Rankings

In a perfect world, the Gridiron Experts team of writers would come together with a top ten list that they could all agree upon. Unfortunately, everyone has a different view of this years rankings.

So here are a few of the writers thoughts on this years top 10 fantasy quarterbacks:

[table "5" not found /]

Mike Rodriguez- Matt Schaub: Throwing for 4770 passing yards and 29 TD’s is apparently not good enough to be high on everyone’s board in 2010. The Texans went 1-5 in their division and just missed the playoffs in ’09, so divisional rivalry games will be the focus this season. Schaub has grown into a legitimate gun-slinger and has one of the best wide receivers in the game. Believe it or not, the passing game will benefit from a tough schedule, always having to make plays and keeping the “Battle Red” competitive.

DC- Drew Brees: The Saints are loaded with weapons and have a much more reliable offensive line than the Packers or Texans, making an easy decision for Brees at one.

The Saints 3-headed running rotation lost Mike Bell for 2010, a minor transaction for the Saints that doesn’t really affect the ground game. Although when the replacement (Reggie Bush) is a better receiver than RB, I start to wonder just how many times the Saints are really going to be calling running plays this season. PT Cruiser will keep defenses honest, but the threat will always lie in the hands of Brees.

Diesel- Phillip Rivers: Rivers is a ball hog who loves to make plays. He has proven to all fantasy owners that big numbers are not just a one-year fluke. Rivers is a playmaker, and given the choice he’d throw for a touchdown on the 2 yard line, rather than hand it off. With the failed rushing attack getting a makeover and a laughable schedule against the pass, Rivers should impress fantasy owners once again.

Matty The Bulldog- Jay Cutler: Mike Martz has taken some of the most average quarterbacks in the league and turned them into stars. When he finally gets his hands on some actual talent, playoffs and even Super Bowl appearances are formed. The offensive system is a series of timing routes and reads that are scripted into his quarterback’s head like a recipe for making Beef Wellington. Some concerns are not so much the QB to Coach marriage, but the receiving core and their NFL experience in learning this new offense as well. When in rhythm, Martz’s aggressive offense can be a fantasy jackpot. Cutler has what it takes.

Ben Hoyt- Jay Cutler: Cutler has a new offensive coordinator in Mike Martz. Martz will give Cutler the opportunity to produce the numbers like he did in Denver. Cutler is in his second season in Chicago and will be more familiar with his receiving core.

Christopher Gabel- Aaron Rodgers: Sorry Peyton, Brady & Brees, Rodgers didn’t have the off-days that the three of you produced last season, and I’m banking on that being a trend rather than an aberration. If Rodgers’ offensive line can improve past the point of being one of the worst in the league, it’s frightening what this passing attack is capable of in 2010.

Chris Hall- Tom Brady: Brady and his cast of characters aren’t getting any younger with Randy Moss being 33 and Wes Welker falling apart at the seams. If Moss and Welker play like their old selves, Brady will be just fine, but if not, expect him to fall a bit. These guys won’t last forever.

Jody Smith- Joe Flacco: 2 signs that Flacco is in for a great year: 1. Acquiring a legitimate #1 receiver to pair with Derrick Mason, in Anquan Boldin. 2. The Ravens defense continues to suffer blows. Rather than winning by running the ball and playing stifling D, the Ravens injured secondary may force them to pass more frequently in an attempt to outscore teams.

As a Texans fan, I’m actually surprised no one talked about Peyton Manning. Through 8 different rankings, he was listed either 3 or 4. That’s disgustingly consistent. I love me some Schaub, but Peyton is a guy who legitimately scares me with how consistent his production is, both in real life football and fantasy football. The only problem is he’s not always guaranteed to play weeks 16-17 because his team is so freakishly good. Regular season gold, playoff curse.

Manning isn’t talked about becuase everybody is sick of the guy. he does like 50 ads in between games. yeah he the best but, whatever we all hates him.
    loved the saints winn

  3. Jody Smith says:

@DFO- Yea, I think Manning is such a model for consistency that we forget to consider him . We pretty much know what he’s going to do every year, and that is put up fantastic numbers, and win.

@RUCrazy- Touche. I tell you, I don’t miss the “cut that meat!” commercials…

  4. Sammy W says:

Where is Mcnabb? I think the running game will be huge for giving him balance. His receiving core isn’t the best but shannahan makes stars out of veterian QBs. I kind of thought I see him as number 10 on someones board

  5. Jody Smith says:

@Sammy W McNabb’s a good qb, but going to a new team raises questions about what kind of numbers he will put up. He also has a lengthy injury history. That being said, I really think he is like a 10b…Shannahan has a good history with running qb’s…I’d say he is a low qb1; definitely someone you can win with.

  6. Wow. It’s a nice reminder that good people are real in this world.
