The NFL Coaching Carousel
The revolving doors have been spinning in the front office of your favorite organization. Coaches and coordinators have been tossed under the bus alike while they watch ex-college phenoms take their jobs. Some teams have made massive leaps in the past two weeks, the San Francisco 49ers and Denver Broncos for example. Others have simply been reeling from the sour taste of a losing season, and may actually be shooting themselves in the foot come opening day, Ahem Bengals.
- Arizona Cardinals – Fired Bill Davis defensive coordinator.
- Baltimore Ravens – Promoted secondary coach Chuck Pagano to defensive coordinator.
- Carolina Panthers – Hired Sean McDermott Defensive Coordinator, Rod Chudzinkski Offensive coordinator. Announced defensive coordinator Ron Meeks accepted a demotion to secondary coach AND Sam Mills III will return as assistant defensive line and quality control coach. Named Brian Murphy special teams coordinator.
- Cincinnati Bengals – Agreed to contract extension with Head Coach Marvin Lewis.
- Cleveland Browns – Fired Head Coach Eric Mangini. Named Pat Shurmur Head Coach.
- Dallas Cowboys – Named Rob Ryan Defensive Coordinator, Jason Garrett Officialy sworn in as Head Coach.
- Denver Broncos – Named John Elway executive vice president of football operations. Promoted chief operating officer Joe Ellis team president. Named John Fox Head Coach. Named Dave Magazu offensive line coach and Tyke Tolbert wide receivers coach.
- Houston Texans – Fired defensive coordinator Frank Bush, secondary coach David Gibbs, linebackers coach Johnny Holland and assistant linebackers coach Robert Saleh. Named Wade Phillips defensive coordinator.
- Miami Dolphins – Signed coach Tony Sparano to a two-year contract extension. Named Brain Daboll offensive coordinator.
- Minnesota Vikings – Reached an agreement with interim head coach Leslie Frazier to become permanent Head Coach.
- Oakland Raiders – Announced they would not pick up the option on Head Coach Tom Cable. Promoted offensive coordinator Hue Jackson to coach.
- Philadelphia Eagles – Fired Sean McDermott defensive coordinator. Named Jim Washburn Defensive Line Coach.
- San Diego Chargers – Fired special teams coach Steve Crosby. Named Greg Manusky offensive coordinators. Named Rich Bisaccia special teams coach.
- San Francisco 49ers – Named Trent Baalke General Manager. Named Jim Harbaugh Head Coach. Named Ed Donatell secondary coach, Geep Chryst quarterbacks coach, and Jim Leavitt linebackers coach. Named Greg Roman offensive coordinator, Vic Fangio defensive coordinator and Tim Drevno offensive line coach.
- Seattle Seahawks – Fired offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates. Named Tom Cable assistant head coach/offensive line coach and Todd Wash defensive line coach. Promoted Kris Richard to defensive backs coach/cornerbacks and Rocky Seto to assistant defensive backs coach/safeties.
- St. Louis Rams – Announced the retirement of quarterbacks coach Dick Curl. Named Josh McDaniels offensive coordinator.
