That is why we do our Start’em Sit’em a little different. Each week our fantasy football writers will recommend a starting line-up of “Starts” that do not include anyone from an Elite 30 group of players. They also must recommend any 3 players to “Sit” that are healthy fantasy players who are at the top of their position. Fantasy points will be scored and tracked throughout the season. Minus points are deducted for the Fantasy Sit recommendations. Standard fantasy football scoring is used to evaluate each recommendation, the Sits are subtracted from the Starts to create one overall score, proving who is truly this years best Start’em Sit’em expert.

Click to see Week 10′s Start’em Sit’em Gauntlet

Lets recap last week and take a look at who’s on a hot streak over the last four weeks

<colgroup><col width="107" /><col span="4" width="38" /><col width="81" /><col width="70" /></colgroup>

Writers

WK6

WK7

WK8

WK9

Last 4 Wks

Overall

Mike Rodriguez

64

57

40

62

223

511

Jody Smith

60

53

54

50

217

563

Phil Clark

54

43

49

19

165

442

DC

28

54

47

24

153

409

Brian Jerzak

78

59

27

47

211

392

Kevin Roberts

51

56

39

51

197

380

Ahmed Helmy

54

43

58

67

222

493

John Taylor

75

99

57

28

259

502

Michael Light

63

77

48

46

234

508

Taylor DeChant

44

53

50

36

183

381

Fantasy Football:

Start’em Sit’em Week 7

Around the League

Fantasy Football

Fantasy Football Strategies

Player Profiles

Sleepers

Start'em Sit'em

Start'em Sit'em Week 7

Check out Gridiron Experts Week 7 Fantasy Football Start'em Sit'em Gauntlet for all the best tier 2 recommendations for the week

Fantasy Football:

Start’em Sit’em Week 7

Once again the crew at Gridiron Experts is breaking out the Fantasy Start’em Sit’em Gauntlet for you to see who we rank as our best tier 2 recommendations. There’s a catch…Every single week our fantasy writers will propose a starting line-up of “Starts” that don’t involve anybody from our Elite 30. They also should recommend any 3 players to “Sit” that are healthy fantasy players that are in the leading of their position. Fantasy points will be scored and tracked all through the season. I think you were a little off on some.” Geez. I was already reeling from my second straight loss after squeaking out a Week 1 win—this after back-to-back championship game appearances. Talk about rubbing it in.

Nobody’s perfect. When you put yourself out there and make predictions for the public to see, you’re going to be wrong and people are going to let you know about it. Of course, whether he was being courteous or sarcastic, my fellow owner quickly shot me another text: “But pretty close on others.” Well, that made me feel a little better.

However, he pretty much summed up anyone attempting to predict the unpredictable.

I stated at the beginning of this column that correctly picking 60% was my goal. I fell short at 50% in Week 1 but hit 60% in Week 2. According to my own standards, I failed again in Week 3, failing to reach my target percentage by one pick again. If you benched Michael Vick, though, for Joe Flacco, then you probably don’t feel too bad about my picks. Then again, if you benched Ryan Mathews, you think I’m idiot. As I’ve proven so far, and the percentages show, I’ve just been mediocre. Speaking of mediocre…

Wins: Ben Roethlisberger, Michael Vick, Hakeem Nicks, Matt Forte, Dez Bryant.

It isn’t ironic that I am pretty low on all five of these perceived elite players. I have serious questions about all of their ability to live up to the preseason hype. Bryant isn’t quite in the same category because people elevated him to an elite level only after Miles Austin was injured, for the most part. Let’s take a more in-depth look at these loveable underachievers from Week 3:

Ben Roethlisberger, QB, PIT (@ IND) – Prediction: 225 passing yards, 1 TDs, 0 INT. Stats: 364 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 2 fumbles. In case you didn’t read my prediction, I predicated that this game wasn’t going to be a blowout like most people expected. The Steelers’ offensive line is a mess, the Colts’ strength is its defensive line, and Big Ben is a turnover machine—not a good combination. Take away the 81-yard touchdown pass to Mike Wallace in the first quarter and you realize how much Ben struggled outside of that one throw: 280 yards, 1 INT, 2 fumbles, and 0 TDs. As of now, Ben isn’t a weekly fantasy starter. He’s more of a boom or bust play, relying on long scoring passes to Wallace, until the offensive line improves.

Michael Vick, QB, PHI (vs. NYG) – Prediction: 200 passing yards, 30 rushing yards, 1 TD, 1 INT, 1 fumble. Stats: 176 yards passing, 31 yards rushing, 0 TDs, 1 INT. It helps with fantasy numbers if you can play an entire game. This has always been the case with Vick and the risk will continue. I could rehash all of his flaws, but I won’t bore you. I’d sell high on Vick now if anyone in your league still believes in him as an elite player.

Hakeem Nicks, WR, NYG (@ PHI) – Prediction: 70 yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 25 yards, 0 TDs. Hicks has been banged up, and he wasn’t exactly slowed down by Nnamdi as I thought he would be. In fact, Nnamdi spent most of the night being burned by the injury-plagued Victor Cruz. However, with Cruz catching two touchdowns in front of the Black Hole, the Giants didn’t have to force the ball to Hicks. If the Giants can continue to improve in the run game and find a viable receiver to take some pressure off of Hicks (I believe that they will do these things), I still love Hicks as a top ten option.

Matt Forte, RB, CHI (vs. GB) – Prediction: 80 total yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 82 total yards, 0 TDs. One of those where I’m scary close. I can’t help but marvel at a starting running back rushing for 2 yards. Two. As in 1… 2. The Bears are a mess. Forte is the only Bear who I remotely trust. In case you didn’t know, I’m not a Jay Cutler fan. He may have a good game every once in a while, but he’s anything but reliable—and that’s one of the major things I look for in a fantasy football player. Forte still has value because he’s such a major part of the passing offense; however, he’s value is severely limited if Chicago doesn’t figure out how to score touchdowns soon.

Dez Bryant, WR, DAL (vs. WSH) – Prediction: 65 yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 63 yards. Nailed it, but Bryant made the catch that counted, which is an encouraging sign for a young receiver attempting to establish himself as an elite player. Still, it’s obvious that Dez benefits from a healthy Miles Austin on the opposite side. This is a case where I don’t think another elite option hurts a teammate’s value. The Cowboys throw enough to rack up solid numbers for two receivers and Witten.

Losses: LeSean McCoy, Roddy White, Ryan Mathews, Rob Gronkowski, Matthew Stafford

Of these five, I only have serious questions about two: White and Mathews. I don’t trust either of them still. White’s numbers were inflated because the Falcons seemingly think they are the Packers, Patriots, or Saints, which they aren’t—not even close (not to mention they are destroying Michael Turner’s value). I said I wanted to see Mathews produce for three weeks in a row, and he has now. However, if Philip Rivers can ever get hot, I think you will see Mathews’ numbers dip again.

LeSean McCoy, RB, PHI (vs. NYG) – Prediction: 65 total yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 128 yards rushing, 18 receiving, 1 TD. I was dead on when I said McCoy was the Eagles most explosive and underrated player; however, I just thought the Giants might realize the same thing. Of course, New York still pulled off the win with McCoy running wild and don’t need my help. I think McCoy’s value decreases a little if Michael Vick misses significant time, but he’s still a solid first or second running back no matter who is taking snaps because he catches the ball so well out of the backfield.

Roddy White, WR, ATL (@ TB) – Prediction: 60 yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 140 yards, 0 TDs. Because the Falcons found themselves behind again, White received a game-high 17 targets, which is ridiculous but also accounts for his jump in receiving yards. It also skewed his numbers. However, his targets and numbers will decrease if the Falcons can ever take the lead in a game. Atlanta and White are more effective when they establish the run and hit White on play-action passes, but the Falcons seem enamored with having Matt Ryan throw 30-plus times a game. I still haven’t seen enough to make me think that White’s numbers won’t dip this season. I could really see White recording single-digit touchdowns and finishing outside of the top then.

Ryan Mathews, RB, SD (vs. KC) – Prediction: 55 yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 98 yards rushing, 52 receiving, 2 TDs. I was dead wrong. Now the question is whether you should buy into this performance for the rest of the season. Does this make Mathews a must-start for the next few weeks until he once again falters? The most obvious thing here is that Mike Tolbert is clearly in Norv Turner’s doghouse after his gaffe against the Patriots last week. Maybe Mathews just needed the assurance of being the lead back. I’m waiting another week before I pass judgment.

Rob Gronkowski, TE, NE (@ BUF) – Prediction: 45 yards, 0 TDs. Stats: 109 yards, 2 TDs. Apparently it doesn’t matter who is on the field; Gronkowski is going to catch touchdowns. I’ve always valued fellow tight end Aaron Hernandez more because of his athleticism and wide-receiver-like shiftiness; however, Gronkowski has been a steady contributor since first game for the Pats. He clearly has the trust of Tom Brady, and as evidenced by Wes Welker’s huge numbers, that’s a great thing to have in fantasy football. Roll with him every week, even when Hernandez is healthy.

Matthew Stafford, QB, DET (@ MIN) – Prediction: 270 passing yards, 1 TDs, 2 INTs. Stats: 378 yards, 2 TDs. The first half went according to the Minnesota’s plan and how I predicted. Of course, unfortunately for the Vikings, they had to play the second half and let the Lions and Stafford roar back for the win. As long as Calvin Johnson stays healthy, it doesn’t look like there’s much outside of an injury that can stop Stafford from putting up top ten numbers every week. Stafford took a few hits that made me scared for him in the game, but overall the Detroit’s offensive line has looked much improved in pass protection. I’d ride this wave of momentum for as long as I could.

Fantasy Football:

NFL Playoff Challenge: Start’em Sit’em

Around the League

Start'em Sit'em

NFL Playoff Challenge: Start’em Sit’em So Fantasy Football is done. The risk of losing a quarterback in the first weekend isn’t as great of a loss as one in the later rounds, yet the reward of getting an explosive mobile QB who might reach the following round is a risk worth taking. Vick says he is 90% (whatever that means) and looked great in the 2nd half of the Packers match-up in relief week one. I wouldn’t worry about any possible “benching”, Vick is a game changer, he’ll be out there no matter what the score is.

Reggie Bush- Running Back
The Saints are 10 point favorites, and will need to stay in rhythm on the road against a 7-9 opponent that is just happy to be in the post-season. The fear of losing momentum on the road in a wet atmosphere may force Drew Brees to check the ball down to his RB often. The Seahawks secondary is one of the more underrated units of the league, yet their front four is inexperienced and may be a weak link the Saints will expose.

Jamaal Charles- Running Back
Kansas City is a tough place to play for opposing visitors. No one is looking at the Chiefs to play spoiler this week, but they should. Baltimore’s defense is good, but not unbeatable.

Jamaal Charles averages 6.4 yards per carry and has a habit of ripping off a long run at some point during a game, no matter who he is facing. Again, risk vs. reward here, Charles might be one and done this weekend, but the upset would be sweet.

Greg Jennings- Wide Receiver
Even though we are recommending Mike Vick, starting Greg Jennings over any of the other talent is a no brainer. Jennings should have a great day in Philly this weekend. This number one Packers target had 82 yards and a touchdown in week one against an Eagles defense that wasn’t filled with back-ups.

Jimmy Graham- Tight End
This new favorite target of Drew Brees is a lethal fantasy weapon. Not only will Jimmy Graham be a summer sleeper next season, but he might be the red zone gem that helps the Saints walk through the playoffs.

Adam Vinatieri- Kicker
Dome game should be an added boost, but the Jets defense will be a headache for Manning, which should stall drives.

Packers Defense
For every great Mike Vick run, there’s a chance for a sack, fumble…even interception. Taking Mike Vick and Green Bay defense gives you the best of both worlds. You’ll be yelling at your TV no matter what the result is when Vick drops back.

A Bye Week Quarterback.
This pool gives you the option to select a quarterback not playing this weekend. I understand you want Tom Brady(and his haircut) on your team, but taking a player that won’t get you points this week is a bad strategy.

Shonn Greene or L. Tomlinson- Running Backs
These two RB’s have the same fantasy numbers every week, it’s frustrating. The Jets RB’s split carries so evenly that there is no real fantasy opportunity for a start for either one of them.

Mike Williams- Wide Receiver
He may put up good numbers, but the odds of him being around the following week are slim to none.

Fantasy Football:

Start’em Sit’em Week 17

Around the League

Chicago Bears

Jacksonville Jaguars

Philadelphia Eagles

Start'em Sit'em

Start’em Sit’em Week 17 Week 17 is always a mess. The media harps about the dreadful curse of benching starters, but it’s also big news when coaches let top players play in meaningless games. So in other words your damned if you do and damned if you don’t, which is terrible for us fantasy junkies.

The trick to Fantasy in week 17 is valuing which teams need to play for something and which don’t.

Must Win
The Giants, Packers, Rams, Buccaneers, Seahawks, Jaguars, and Colts all have must win games and will feature fantasy players that are good to go

Pointless Games
The Patriots, Jets, Chiefs, and Eagles really have nothing to play for as their positions are as good as locked in the playoff standings.

Hard To Say
The Bears have said they are playing all their starters (but for how long?) and the Steelers and Ravens could flip positions in the standings which is important for a playoff bye. The same could be said for the Falcons and Saints, yet the Falcons are playing the worst team in football, the Panthers, so New Orleans might be watching the score board to see if it’s even worth showing up for, odds are they rest players too.

Kevin Kolb- Eagles
The Eagles looked horrible on Tuesday night and haven’t done much in the last two games minus that amazing 4th quarter against the Giants. Defense’s have adjusted to Mike Vick and who knows what happens in the off-season if Vick plays poorly again in the playoffs. A high draft pick may be too tempting for a guy they aren’t financially committed too. Kolb will want to end the season on a high note for teams to look over when evaluating their quarterback situation next season. It’s at home against a team fans really get up, I’d expect solid numbers in the final week.

Rashad Jennings- Jaguars
MJD is out and the Jaguars still have a shot at the playoffs. The Titans would love to spoil Peyton Manning’s chances at going to the post-season, so this not a long shot. The Jaguars are running with backups, but they will be jacked up this Sunday. The Texans have a terrible defense, and with the Houston fans more concentrated on seeing their coach getting canned, the cheers may be mixed filled with boos this Sunday. The Jaguars are starting Trent Edwards at quarterback, so of the two back-ups Jennings will be leaned on more to carry the workload. Start’em!

Mario Manningham- Giants
With WR injuries across the board Manningham will see the ball a ton on Sunday. There are a few teams looking at that final playoff seed, but none more heavily pressure to make it than the Giants. Tampa is proud of the quick turnaround from their losing season in 09 and the Packers are heading into Sunday’s match-up with pre-written excuses and a long list of injuries for why this wasn’t their year. The Giants are not hearing the same sort of positive support, with blown games and up and down performances by most big name starters. The Giants need this game and a blowout could speak volume.

The Redskins are always in the media, but never for their horrible defense. The Jaguars handed them a gift last week, but a capable quarterback should be able to shred this team threw the air. Good match-up

Sleeper Brent Celek- Eagles
Brent Celek was suppose to have a break-out season in 2010, it never happened. The quarterback switch to Vick from Kolb drastically dropped the fantasy value of this talented Eagle. Mike Vick buys time with his feet allowing his speedy receivers to extend plays and get open, where Celek is more of a traditional pattern runner that works better with a pocket passer. Kolb likes getting the pass out quick and loves to check it down to his reliable tight end. Great Sleeper option UPDATED: Celek is being rested for the playoffs

Matt Ryan- Falcons
This game is pointless. A win locks 1st place in the NFC, and the only reason why Ryan is not getting benched is for the fact that if the Panthers somehow pull out a victory along with a Saints win, they could be leap frogged in the standings. I’m guessing the Falcons will start fast, get an early lead and allow their defense to take over the game with the rushing attack. If they lead is quite large in the 2nd half, Ryan could get pulled. The ‘W” is all they are after, this game could be a low scoring game.

LeSean McCoy- Eagles
Easily the most underrated weapon in the Eagles offense, McCoy will get a few carries first half but our guess is he’ll get rested at some point. The Eagles have a few unproven RB’s they’d like to check out, one of which is mid-season acquisition Jerome Harrision, who could also be a deep sleeper.

Dwayne Bowe- Chiefs
Sounds crazy but I can’t see Bowe having a monster day, what would be the point? The Chiefs can’t improve from their spot in the standings and would hate to see their star receiver get banged up for the playoffs. They have little to play for in Week 17 with the division wrapped up. There’s a chance they could slide down to the No. 4 seed with a loss, but have no shot at No. 2.

Fantasy Football:

Start’em Sit’em Week 16

Around the League

Fantasy Football Strategies

Start'em Sit'em

Start’em Sit’em Week 16 You know the drill, Gridiron Experts looks for great match-ups in key situations to help get you the most fantasy production. Most fantasy leagues are wrapping up this week with their Fantasy Super Bowl Championship. Skipping the final week of the NFL season is usually a good idea in Fantasy leagues. With NFL teams clinching playoff berths, the chance of coaches resting star players always increases. Yet there are many leagues still just entering their semi-finals, and for you, this article applies the same.

At this point Gridiron Experts is not going to dig too deep, you came a long way to get to the playoffs, why start looking at bench warmers to ruin all your hard work. Instead we are going to compare mid-range players for those teams that aren’t running with the Mike Vick’s or Arian Foster’s of the league, and have gotten by with what they’ve been dealt.

Better Safe Than Sorry: Joe Flacco vs. The Browns, Eli Manning vs. The Packers, Jay Cutler vs. the Jets

If you have one of these 3 quarterbacks, you’re either unimpressed with the weekly averages or dreading this weeks match-up.

Joe Flacco isn’t exactly the front runner for fantasy stud quarterbacks, and a game against the Browns sounds better than you might suspect. Cleveland has only allowed 2 passing touchdowns in their last 4 games and are playing at home for the first time in 3 weeks. Granted, the QB talent the Browns faced in those 4 games wasn’t exactly grade A top sirloin, still, some may argue at this level, no quarterback should get a free pass. Flacco has had only 3 games this season where he has thrown for 3 scores, the good news is Cleveland is one of them. Predicting somewhere in the middle: 245 yards 2 TD’s

Eli Manning’s demeanor is very calm, it’s always been that way. So when a team like the Eagles scores 28 points in the forth quarter, you expect a little Philip Rivers or Peyton Manning type passion in the post-game interview, but if no one shows up for the interview, it’s hard to speak your mind. The Green Bay Packers are very much in the playoff hunt and need a win almost as bad as the Giants needed a flag on that DeSean Jackson game winning punt return. Manning will have to be at his absolute best, trying to regain any lost momentum won’t be easy, but we have confidence in him this week. Expect great numbers in a game that should be a high scoring affair. Predicting: 260 yards, 3 Td’s

Jay Cutler is about to face a AFC opponent that many are comparing as an equivalent to the Chicago Bears. Both the Jets and Bears have a lot of hype behind them, but very few expect to see them deep into the playoffs beyond their immediate fan base. Cutler will see first hand one of the toughest secondaries in the league, although his ability to be phased never seems to happen in the big games. The true fact of the matter is, Cutler is streaking in fantasy, but you already know this by week 16. In fact I’d love to see how many people have even made it this deep into the fantasy playoffs with a guy as inconsistent as Cutler. Prediction: Damned if you do, damned if you don’t

Tempting: Jon Kitna vs. The Cardinals, David Garrard vs. The Redskins

We’re not going to try and tell you to bench a star quarterback for one of these two guys. The rule of the thumb is to always put your best line-up in and don’t over think match-ups. Yet, Kitna has four 300-yard passing performances in his past eight games, and five of his past nine games. He is facing a terrible team that hates showing up for work, the big plays should be there all night long.

David Garrard is going up against one of the biggest joke franchise’s in the league. The Redskins couldn’t tackle a midget in a phone-booth and are too concerned about the off season personal fire sale. Both QB’s should see excellent numbers in Week 16.

Better Safe Than Sorry: Ahmad Bradshaw vs. the Jets, Steven Jackson vs. the 49er’s, Fred Jackson vs. the Patriots

All three of these RB’s are facing tough opponents and are not (or haven’t been latley) the center piece of their offensive squads.

Bradshaw could get an added bonus in the passing game this week; The Packers have allowed only 6 rushing touchdowns this season and have one of the more stout defensive units. The split role with Jacobs diffenitly hurts the odd’s of a rushing score, still Gridiron Experts expect to see a lot quick passes to RB’s and Tightend’s to avoid that haunting pass rush.

Steven Jackson has seen his carries drop in the last few weeks. This is a big game and he will receive a heavy work load. Don’t over think his streaky play as of late, Start’em!

Fred Jackson was invisible last week against Miami. His primary role was laying out blitzing defenders in pass protection for his quarterback. This week the Patriots are rolling into town with an almost lock to to clinch a first round bye, the team might let up the gas a little, giving you a chance for some sneaky fantasy pity points. Don’t steer away.

Tempting: **None**

We refuse to put any bad ideas in the heads of Fantasy owners. Nothing really stands out this week for over thinking the norm. Start your very best.

“Help Me I Got Nothing”: For those who have had an injury, like say Frank Gore owners that never filled the void or owners that loaded heavy on flexed receivers, here are a few quick sleepers:

Donald Brown- If you are going to dig….might as well dig for the gold. Brown looked great last week and will be asked to help out his offense again against the Raiders. A succuessful running game helps Peyton Manning get defense’s moving the way he wants, not a bad sleeper.

Michael Bush came in and stole 2 goal line carries for McFadden last week. The Colts are brutal against the run.

Ryan Torain, decent match-up if he gets the start

Deep Sleeper: Rashad Jennings- Big play guy that gets the ball when the defense see’s MJD on the sideline, they think pass and Jennings grabs a few huge plays.

Better Safe Than Sorry: Wes Welker vs. the Bills, Larry Fitzgerald vs. the Cowboys, Mike Williams vs. Buc’s, Steve Johnson vs. the Patriots, Hines Ward vs. Panthers

The following five receivers should get together and start a boy band to sing sad irritating songs to their fantasy owners. Each one of these guys is your walking nightmare. They all have the potential to have excellent fantasy numbers this week due to their match-up, yet throughout the year they have all been the cause of much heartache. Every fantasy team has options, and while the wide receiver spot is a hard category to recommend Start’s and Sit’s for the playoffs, our honest opinion would be that the yardage range should be from 40-90 yards each, with a high possibility that these players could all find the end zone.

Bad Gut Feeling: Brandon Lloyd vs. the Texans, Chad Ochocinco vs. the Chargers, Kenny Britt vs. the Chiefs

Lloyd had a great connection with Kyle Orton, and lucky catch with Tim Tebow. The Texans are (believe it or not) playing better defense. This game should be closer than you think. Besides, there wasn’t a ton of confidence in the play calling with Tebow, and this match-up seems too good to be true.

Chad Ochocinco has lost his Dynamic Duo and will be squaring off against one of the leagues best defenses. When did Robin ever get the job done without Batman? -never

Kenny Britt and the Titans ended a long ugly losing streak last week against the Texans. The team has been quiet this season and rank near the bottom in all offensive categories. Kansas City is a difficult place to play, and with the media watchfull eye on Randy Moss waiting to show up, we aren’t liking to Britt start.

Fantasy Football:
