Greg Jennings Fantasy Preview

After a fantastic season in 2008 and a great team pre-season in 2009, Greg Jennings was looking like a shoe in to become a top 10 fantasy football WR. Unfortunately, after a solid two week start to the season, Greg Jennings monster status fell apart and amounted to a commendable 1113 yards receiving and only 4 touchdowns with 68 receptions.

As the #1 receiver on arguably the strongest fantasy offense, where should Greg Jennings be ranked in 2010? and what happened last year?

Problem A: In 2009 the Packers simply had too many people vying for the ball in the red zone. With Jennings, Donald Driver, Jermichael Finley, James Jones, Ryan Grant, and a couple of bit players popping open like Spencer Havner who caught 4 TD’s!, there just wasn’t enough to go around. Tack the amount of …Continue reading Greg Jennings Fantasy Preview

Hot Tub Time Machine: Super Bowl XXXII

Hot Tub Time Machine: Super Bowl XXXII

As a writer for Gridiron Experts I’m constantly trying to predict the future. Whether it’s picking games on Sunday or digging for fantasy football gems, it’s all about the day after tomorrow. On Saturday night, the NFL Network let me take a break from the psychic friends hot-line, putting down the never-ending flipping of draft mags to re-live a memory from 1998.

Favre vs. Elway, Packers vs. Broncos, Super Bowl XXXII was one of my favorite games of all time.

You know that feeling where you get a chance to reminisce on the past, and prefer the memories. Seeing things in a different light and not having it live up to your expectations. Like an old-school video game that you played to death; Mega Man, Excitebike or Techo Bowl that seemed so much cooler when you were a kid…Super Bowl XXXII was not an exaggerated memory.

While I did get a kick out seeing a pre-streoid: Ed Hochuli, a younger Mike Holgrem or the wicked high-tech special effects that TV could offer in 1998, the game was very entertaining. Still, it’s funny seeing retro baddass’s like Bill Romanowski or fantasy studs like Mark Chmura that you’ve …Continue reading Hot Tub Time Machine: Super Bowl XXXII

Aaron Rodgers: 2010 Elite Fantasy QB?

Aaron Rodgers: 2010 Elite Fantasy QB?

It was quite an infamous moment in the NFL when Aaron Rodgers got his first start in the 2008 season. With that first snap he signified the replacement of Brett Favre as the Green Bay Packers QB of the future, and hasn’t looked back since. In 2008 Rodgers recorded 28 touchdowns, 29 in 2009 and just to pad the stats, Rodgers punched in 9 rushing TD’s in those two years, that’s more than some running backs!

Rodgers has now earned himself a number one fantasy QB ranking on NFL.com over the likes of Drew Brees, Tom Brady, and Peyton Manning. He’s skyrocketing up rankings all over the web and rightfully so. Not only has his touchdown count been so reliable, he’s thrown for over 4,000 yards in both starting seasons; that’s production.

Aiding Rodgers on his quest for fantasy stardom is a fantastic cast (with the exception to the offensive line, which makes his performances that much more impressive). Almost as if age isn’t …Continue reading Aaron Rodgers: 2010 Elite Fantasy QB?

5 Underrated Free Agents Worthy Of Respect

The free agent market hits us like a tidal wave of possibilities. Fans are eagerly waiting and wondering how their team is going to make an upgrade quickly, while others want to know the affects it will have on fantasy football. The following is a quick list of players I think are flying under the radar who could have a huge year with a change of scenery.

#5 WR Antonio Bryant

Bryant had an amazing season in 2008, racking up 1,248  receiving yards and 7 touchdowns, but was franchise tagged last year to play on a team he wanted out of. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers were desperate to keep this unhappy wide receiver around for another year, but now they are letting him loose. Before playing two seasons in Tampa, Bryant bounced around the league, playing in Cleveland and in San Fransisco after the three seasons in Dallas in which he was drafted from.

At 28, this receiver is a lot more in tune with what he wants and where he thinks could be the best possible destination for his skills. Bryant still has a few more good years left in him, and a team looking to add an instant starter could land themselves a great wide receiver weapon.

4) DE Aaron Kampman

I am not Kampman’s doctor, but if the light is green, teams would be stupid not to gamble on this sack monster. Aaron suffered a knee injury earlier in the year, forcing him to miss time and play somewhat average football for the Packers. If you look at the three previous years in …Continue reading 5 Underrated Free Agents Worthy Of Respect

Wild Card Preview:Packers-Cardinals

Green Bay Packers at Arizona Cardinals-1.5

Before this article grabs Green Bay fans by the wrists and drags them into the depths of painful, realistic punishment, let’s adore the facts. Green Bay just beat the Arizona Cardinals. They did so handily, 33-7, and after winning seven of their last eight games, there really isn’t much to suggest a first round exit.

If you truly believe that, you’re either a naive Cheesehead from Wisconsin, or you simply don’t follow the NFL.

After seeing the Minnesota Vikings beat the New York Giants and end any chances of the Cardinals obtaining a first round bye, Arizona head coach Ken Wisenhunt “wizened up” (pun intended) and sat all of his offensive starters after less than a quarter of play. What transgressed was the Green Bay Packers (who left their starters in for nearly the entire game) demolishing the Cardinals. Add the soul-pounding victory by Green Bay with it’s other six victories out of it’s last eight games, and you’ve got a confident group of players and coaches on your hands.

But, really, are they that confident?

They’re going back to the same place they just played in less than a week. Only, this time they get the real deal. The Cardinals saw what the Packers are capable of. They saw their offense going to work, how their defense works in it’s 3-4, and what tendencies Mike McCarthy and co. …Continue reading Wild Card Preview:Packers-Cardinals

OMG! That’s Why The Packers Lost

[smooth=id:18;]

The Buccaneers won for the first time since Nov. 30, 2008, snapping an 11-game losing streak by beating the Green Bay Packers on Sunday. Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib had an interception, and Rodgers was sacked six times in a surprise upset. Every football fan across the country was shocked with the outcome of this game….but we know why the Packers lost.

Who in their right minds can pick up blocks, run passing routes or make tackles when there are girls on the sidelines dressed like this?

Quick Preview: Vikings at Packers

MIN_GB

This game has been circled on the calendar for a while now, pretty much since Brett signed with the Vikings. Last year, as a member of the New York Jets, Favre didn’t face the Packers, but as soon as he decided to come out of retirement and join the Minnesota Vikings, the immediate focus shifted to when he would return to Green Bay to face his former team and his scorned fans.

While many people are looking at all of the side stories, the real story here is that this is a match-up for first place in the NFC North. As it turns out, the battle at the top of the NFC North is very competitive, and although the Vikings were undefeated before last weeks loss in Pittsburgh, they could essentially be tied with the Packers if they lose for a second straight week.

Minnesota Vikings @ Green Bay Packers

NFL odds: Packers -3

When the Packers and Vikings met up in Minnesota a few weeks back on Monday Night Football it was a tight game, but the real story of the contest was the Packers offensive line. The Vikings totaled eight sacks overall and defensive end Jared Allen had four on his own. …Continue reading Quick Preview: Vikings at Packers

Green Bay Packers 2009 PreviewGreen Bay Packers

While the Vikings and Bears are the talk of the town, NFL odds makers like a different team in the NFC North: the Green Bay Packers. Having arguably one of the best offenses in the division (even with Farve back), an improved defense, and excellent coaching, the Packers might be able to make the Lambeau Leap back into first place.

Off-season Transaction

The Packers didn’t make a ton of personnel changes in the off-season but they did make a few tweaks. The biggest change will be at defensive coordinator, where Dom Capers takes over and will employ the 3-4 scheme. Newcomers on the team are critically acclaimed draft picks B.J. Raji (first-round) and Clay Matthews (second-round). Aside from that, the Packers roster is very much status quo.

Offense …Continue reading Green Bay Packers 2009 Preview
