Last week featured 2 road underdog victories and one 10 point upset Seahawk shocker. Last year’s Super Bowl teams were knocked off, along with the number one NFC offensive team that included a MVP candidate. Most people, thought last weeks Wild-card weekend was a complete and utter head scratcher. With 3 upsets and 3 road wins, the once powerful “home-field advantage” looked to be no more than a pointless cliche.

A week off to prepare for a opponent in the comfort of your own home is a definite advantage. The Patriots, Falcons, Bears and Steelers are rested and ready for a opportunity to advance to the championship round. Does home-field advantage work with better home teams? we’ll have to find out.

Most of the match-ups in week 14 feature large spreads with what looks like very easy-to-pick games. Our pick’em leader is holding strong at 125-67, yet the hot streak belongs to Jody Smith who is 28-4 in the last two weeks.

Gridiron Experts picks are much improved from the first half of the season. In fact Ben Hoyt is siting in comfortable lead with 113-63 (try finding a better record) while our fantasy guru is throwing hailmary’s to get back into the game. Last week Jody was 14-2, nice picking ace!

Thursday Night Football features a game that may kick off your week of “Pick’em” with the toughest game to call of the week. The Chicago Bears are heading to Miami to face a Dolphins team that is currently a 1 point favorite. Only the Cleveland and Jacksonville game is predicted this close with sportsbooks. With the added mystery of this 3rd string new Dolphins quarterback (who pulled out a win last week) this should make for great TV.

The Cowboys and Jaguars caught almost all our experts by surprise in week 10. Still, overall the best record in week 10 was 8-6

By now, a surprise upset is old news in the NFL, yet I was still shocked to see the Browns go into New Orleans and steal one from the Super Bowl Champs of a season ago. Last year, people were overly confident with the Indianapolis Colts when doing their Super Bowl Betting, now it’s the other way around.

The Saints are hosting the Steelers this Halloween Sunday night, a regular Super Bowl contender that looks confident in making a push again in the AFC. New Orleans have not looked the same from a season ago, but all questions could be answered with an upset win against an excellent defense. The Browns loss might get chalked up as an overlook game to this weekends Sunday Night blood bath. That is to say the Saints don’t come out flat at home, surrounded by a mob of New Orleans fans dress to kill in their best Halloween costumes.

Saints Keys To The Game

Run the ball, despite the tough odds: The Steelers pride themselves on having one of the leagues best rushing defenses, creating one dimensional type games. It will seem frustrating at first, but those 2-3 yards need to be picked up on the early downs. If Drew Brees is firing 56 passes ( like he did a week ago) the Steelers will dominate the game and force turnovers. A balanced attack is your best shot at putting together lasting drives against the Steelers. 3 and outs do nothing but frustrate the offense and put added pressure on that Saints Defense.

Steelers Keys To The Game

Start quick and control the game: There is no question about it,  that stadium will be loud and crazy. The Steelers need to take a couple early shots and quiet that angry mob. The defense will usually bail out any turnover, so the risk in going for an early strike isn’t the end of the world. If it pays off, the Steelers could frustrate the home team with long, draining drives that keeps Brees off the field.

My pick: I’m going against the obvious, and taking the Saints at home in an upset victory; something about a home game on Halloween in New Orleans just screams bad mojo for the Steelers. Saints 24-Steelers 23

Fantasy Football:

Week 7 features 9 games that are projected to end in a field goal finish. In what looks like a tough NFL weekend no other match-up seems more like a coin flip then the Falcons and Bengals. The Bengals are off a bye week, which typically means a team is refreshed and focused. Most NFL obsessive coaching staffs are overly prepared with two weeks of scheming, yet this is the Cincinnati Bengals, a team that wouldn’t surprise me if they went on a 10 day drinking binge.

The Falcons on the other hand were exposed in Philadelphia. It was like discovering a poker players “tell”, and ruining them with it. The Falcons defensive formula may have confused some of their earlier opponents but looked flawed on the road in Philly. The Falcons refused to send pressure, and Kolb picked them apart because of it

The Bengals have dropped their last two games and the Falcons were torched for 31 points last week. So who takes control of this weekend’s rare meeting between the Bengals and Falcons?

Palmer and T.O seem to be the better combination these days, and will have to get on track early. Palmer has struggled this season with his erratic play but can still lead this team. Cedric Benson is one of the lone RB’s in the league that see a heavy workload, his ability to keep defense’s on their toes is a valuable part of the Bengals offense. If Benson can’t get on track it sputters the offense. Sunday, the Bengals will want to start fast and get points on their first drive. Their confidence is shot, despite the huge ego’s on this team of orange and black. We haven’t seen any sideline drama yet, but a few 3 and out’s this week and the crazy will show up early for Halloween.

The Falcons had their 4 game win streak clipped in a real eye opener last week. Matt Ryan’s throws were off the defense wasn’t able to accomplish much. With lucky wins over the Saints and 49er’s some are calling Atlanta’s 4-2 record inflated, as it could easily be a 2-4 record. A Falcons fan may get defensive with such a statement, but if the Saints don’t miss an easy overtime field goal or Nate Clements just goes down after a fourth quarter Matt Ryan interception and this team is near the bottom of the division instead of being tied with the Saints at the top.

I think this game will see many shades of miss-cues. Both teams will be pressing, which could lead to some stalled drives and blown plays. The lead should trade hands a few times, but the real difference between these two very similar squads is rest and preparation the Bengals gained from their week off. I’m going to assume there were no secret boat cruises and take the Bengals in a spoiler.
