Miami at Tennessee-3

This week the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans square off in what could be the best game of the week. The Dolphins are probably one the leagues best teams flying under the radar, or swimming as it may be. The loss of Ronnie Brown had many people completely scratching them off the playoff bracket, but with solid play from Ricky Williams and young Chad Henne the fish look strong and fast.

With Jacksonville losing on Thursday night the playoff picture will come down to the wire. Obviously the Dolphins would love to win the division, only being back a game to the Patriots, but either way, motivation is definitely circling throughout the locker room. This game should be a battle of secret weapons; the Titans have the leagues most explosive RB with Chris Johnson while the Dolphins run what can be a powerful running formation with the wildcat. The goal for both defensive coordinators will be to figure out a way to slow the other teams running game down. Gridiron Experts see a close hard fought game that will probably be won or lost with something as stupid as a bad turnover or a big play on special teams. With that said, we like the Dolphins and a big Ted Ginn Jr. return. MIA 24-23

Chicago at Baltimore-10.5

The Bears and Ravens are not having a great NFL season like many thought they would. This game might have been one to flex back before we knew that both teams are extremely boring and frustrating to watch. The Ravens take a ridiculous amount of penalties throughout a game, most coming when the game is on the line, while the Bears are turnover machines mainly due to their big “buyers remorse” quarterback purchase.

The spread at 10.5 will most likely scare away any takers, though it shouldn’t, as road dogs the Bears are laughable. Chicago is 1-5 against the spread on the road this season, and have won just one of their last five games. The Ravens still have playoff opportunities in play and should be dying to get back out on the field and build off an impressive win against the Lions last week (48-3). We like the Ravens to pick apart the Bears offense and torch Chicago’s 25th ranked run defense with their duo of excellent RB’s.

Green Bay-3 at Chicago

The Packers are walking into a Bear trap. With nothing to lose and a huge chip on their shoulder from the previous battle, the Chicago Bears are itching to ruin any winning streak and wildcard chance for the Packers.

The last meeting was opening weekend; Jay Cutler threw 4 interceptions which kicked off this nightmare of a season for the newly acquired quarterback. Cutler isn’t going to light up the secondary with a 5 wide passing attack, he will hand the ball off and use roll out plays and bootlegs a lot like what he did in Denver, it’s just too bad the Bears coaching staff took the entire season to figure out how to use him. This game should be a tough, hard fought grudge match that will catch the Packers off guard. BEARS 30-27

Denver at Indianapolis-7

The Colts are bound to lose some time, but not this week. Peyton Manning knows that taking a week off against a team like the Broncos could mean that he’d see them again in the playoffs. The Broncos are fighting themselves these days to play a complete game, especially on the road, and the lack of fire power should cost Denver this weekend. With one of the leagues best passing defenses the Broncos are likely keep Manning to average numbers, but the Colts home field advantage plus an average Broncos quarterback won’t be enough. tb car

Tampa Bay at Carolina-6

These two NFC South teams were once respected powerhouses that had either a blitzing attack or a tricky cover 2 defense that created weekly turnovers. This year both teams are bottom of the barrel in the turnover ratio (CAR-9, TB-4), and are night and day from last year’s versions of themselves.

The only bright light this week for Panther fans is that Jake Delhomme isn’t starting. Delhomme got the nod for the Panthers every game this season and must have corroborating evidence on head coach John Fox, as he has been terrible to say the least.

With both teams banged up or having to start key positions with rookies, we’re going to take the Panthers on the fact that Delhomme isn’t playing. As long as Matt Moore doesn’t start a small fire, the house is his to keep. CAR 24-13

Dallas-2 at NY Giants

One of the biggest games of the week! The Cowboys and Giants always break out their “A” games no matter what the standings look like. This match-up just so happens to be monumental for the G-Men as a loss here would put the hurt on their chances for making the post season.

Both teams are somewhat evenly matched, both have their weak spots while at the same time have weapons that can score at will. The Giants have taken the “must win” approach into their last three games and come away with only one victory, can you say desperate football? We like the home team that’s betting the season. Quick Thursday Pick: Bills vs. Jets

Category : Buffalo Bills, Free Picks, New York Jets, Previews & Forecasts

NYJ_BUF

New York Jets-3 vs. The Buffalo Bills

The main storyline for this game should feature a rematch of the Bill’s’ run defense and the Jets running back Thomas Jones. Jones had 210 yards on the ground and a touchdown in the first meeting, but was overshadowed by the performance of Mark Sanchez who threw 5 INT’s; this was also the week Gridiron Experts said you should bench Sanchez, which had a few people shocked by our prediction.

Another surprising storyline from the first meeting was the play of Terrell Owens, who was shut down by CB Darrelle Revis. Both are supremely confident and talented players who will try to impose their will and skill on each other again this week, although we like the experience from T.O. as a veteran to take over and learn from his mistakes.

The Bills aren’t mathematically eliminated from the playoffs, but their first priority is trying to build momentum one win at a time. With a crowd full of loving Canadians just happy to see some NFL action, you can expect extra energy from the Bills team who are being counted as the home team. Gridiron Experts expects a good Thursday night game that should trade leads at least 2-3 times. In the end we like the Bills to cover and win in T.O., thanks to a great game from T.O.

Arizona at Tennessee-1

Home field advantage always plays into the deciding factor this time of year. The Titans pulled off an impressive victory over the Texans on Monday night and actually have life if they can keep the wins rolling. The Cardinals are also a good team but struggle away from their cozy warm dome. It’s hard to pick against a team on such a hot streak with VY under center, and given the fact that this is an average NFC team facing a rising AFC team, we have to lean the Titans way. The X-factor in this one will be Chris Johnson (isn’t it always); the Cardinals are excellent at stopping the run, so Tennessee will need to be smart in figuring out ways to get their star player the ball. It’ll come down to the wire but the Titans will pull it out. Tennessee 23-20

Miami-3.5 at Buffalo

The Bills played great football last week but couldn’t hang on for the win against the Jags. The Dolphins are not great in the winter but have a guy under center who loves the cold; Chad Henne is the future for the Dolphins, and his experience playing in cold weather games from attending school in Michigan will help Miami for years to come. While we think this game will be close, the Bills are motivated by the fact that they have a chance to play spoiler to a division rival. Buffalo 24-23

Gridiron Experts Turkey Day Preview
gb det

Green Bay Packers at Detroit Lions

The Packers head to Detroit to square off against a team that has lost five games in a row on Thanksgiving. While this Thursday’s match-up sounds easy, Green Bay  is without cornerback Al Harris and linebacker Aaron Kampman, who both will have season-ending knee surgeries. Fantasy owners are licking their lips as each team could have big numbers on both sides of the ball this week. Aaron Rodgers has had a huge season in ‘09, but has taken way too much time to get his number one target Greg Jennings involved in the fun. Up until last week Jennings had been somewhat of a non factor in Packers games, allowing Donald Driver to take on more of a lead role.

This week should be a better game than expected; the Packers are trying out new starters on defense while the Lions defense will just be trying to keep up. Gridiron Experts expects more out of Detroit this week, but the 11 point favorite Green Bay Packers will win and cover.

Green Bay 31-17

Oakland Raiders at Dallas Cowboys

What a bad game. Even back in April before people knew who has going to a be a good this year, we all knew the Raiders were going to suck. When deciding on the Thanksgiving match-ups each season it almost seems like the Cowboys get a free win with their turkey-day opponents. In the last couple years, I can’t think of a tough match-up the Cowboys have had to face. Do they want people to tune in? Because this game is when I take a turkey-nap.

The Raiders are off a huge victory (that Gridiron Experts called !!) beating the Bengals at home, while the Cowboys pulled off a nail biter against the Redskins with a late 4th quarter score in week 11. The offense hasn’t been on track for Dallas in the last couple weeks, but with the Raiders coming to town things are going to straighten themselves out. Tony Romo has never lost as a starter on Thanksgiving (maybe thanks to the weak schedule) but it might be the running game that takes over in this one; the Raiders rank 30th in the NFL against the run, yielding 157.7 yards per game while the Cowboys are the second-most efficient team running the ball at 5 yards per carry. The Cowboys are 13.5 point favorites, and we expect an ugly blow out that will have you rolling your eyes in boredom.

Dallas Cowboys 28-10

nyg den

New York Giants at Denver Broncos

This game saves the day in my opinion. The Giants are surprising 6.5 point favorites on the road in Denver this week…something has got to give. The Broncos have not hosted a Thanksgiving Day game since 1963; they would love to get a win here to have a long week off, before kicking off a two game road trip that will decide their season. The Giants and Broncos are a lot alike, both teams started strong and both teams have taken a downward spiral in the standings. The Giants had to go to overtime to end their losing streak last week, while the Broncos looked terrible against the Chargers in week 11.

Denver wide receiver Brandon Marshall got into a heated exchange with rookie running back Knowshon Moreno on the sideline after Moreno fumbled into the end zone against San Diego, and the pressure is starting to be felt by first year wonder Josh McDaniels. The G-Men are more like midgets in the running game this season and have lost the ability to control the game with their power running back Brandon Jacobs. 6.5 point underdog Broncos will have to show their fans that they are not going to lay down and die, this game is a must win for the Broncos and may be the turning point of the season. We like the Broncos in an upset at home.

Denver Broncos 26-24

Gridiron Experts is breaking out the big guns in week 11. At this point last year we were ahead of many experts including all of ESPN.com’s pros. While this year hasn’t been a disaster, the opportunity for a  make or break season is now, in our eyes. In the next 7 weeks Gridiron Experts is going to take more risks as we are going to take our solid picking record of 94-51 (65%) to more like (70-75%).

OAK100

Cincinnati-9.5 at Oakland

This pick could be suicide, but you have to take a shot now and then. The Raiders have benched JaMarcus Russell and have given Bruce Gradkowski the starting gig, which is long overdue. The Bengals will be without Cedric Benson, their workhorse for this match-up, and are still glowing from their win over the Steelers last week. If the Raiders can get a couple lucky bounces, the black and silver could easily steal one from the Bengals. The Raiders are 8-0 all-time against the Bengals at home. OAK 20-17

DET100

Cleveland at Detroit-3

Could you imagine having tickets to this game? I’d rather find a bar and watch the CFL playoffs or maybe the cute waitress screwing up my drink order. If Kevin Smith doesn’t produce in this match-up fantasy owners will freak out. This game should be a Lions victory; it’s not often you can guarantee a Lions win, but the talent is heavily favored Detroit’s way without Cribbs playing for the Browns. DET 24-20

STL100

Arizona-9.5 at St. Louis

What are we doing? A 94-51 record in a weird year is respectable, why wreck it with the Rams? The thinking here is that the Rams performance last week against the undefeated Saints should create confidence. St. Louis was a drive away from pulling off a volcanic upset last week that would have the betting committee in tears. When playing on a terrible team that has nothing to be happy about, you have to find the good in the little things. Try to picture that Rams locker room after almost beating the 9-0 Saints….it would have probably felt pretty good, a sense of confidence that this team can roll with the big dogs. We like Spags, and we like the Cardinals to choke on the road.  STL 27-26

Thursday Night Preview: Dolphins at Panthers

0

Category : Carolina Panthers, Miami Dolphins, Previews & Forecasts

MIA_CAR

MIAMI DOLPHINS VS. CAROLINA PANTHERS-3

Injured running backs on both sides of the ball might make for a sloppy quarterback attack Thursday night. The Miami Dolphins had to put Ronnie Brown on IR, making their playoff chances that much more difficult. The Panthers also have both of their two-headed monster runners less than 100% for this match-up, but with so much on the line, DeAngelo Williams and Jonathan Stewart will likely suit up and play hard. Other key injuries for the Panthers: LT Jordan Gross, Charles Godfrey.

Panthers Quarterback Jake Delhomme has played three somewhat mistake-free games after throwing 13 interceptions in the first six, and will look to test the Dolphins defense early. Steve Smith shines in prime time and should have a good game in what could save the Panthers season. Believe it or not, but the Panthers are one of the hotter NFL teams these days; winning 4 of their last five including 3 in a row.

For the Dolphins, Chad Henne will have to up his game now that the Wildcat will have to be re-tooled. Not just anyone can run the Wildcat and we might see more standard formations from the Dolphins tonight until a replacement is found. Henne is raw but has huge upside; this game will be an excellent test for the young talent. With Ricky Williams’ best years behind him, expect to see a couple new faces throughout the game. As far as fantasy football goes, this game might create a few new hot pick-ups in next weeks waiver wire.

The way we see it

Unlike last Thursday nights game (which we nailed) this game should be exciting and full of entertainment. If D.Williams plays you could see a high scoring game, but it will be the defenses that will really shine tonight. We expect both teams to apply a ton of pressure which should create at least one turnover each. In the end, home field advantage and the more experienced, healthier Panthers will take this one at home. CAROLINA 24-20

  • Start Philip Rivers against the Eagles. Rivers didn’t have to do as much as we had thought, as the Eagles defense was so depleted. 20|25 for 231 yards and 2 TD’s

  • Bench Santana Moss: We were a week early on the Fred Davis sleeper pick, but Moss was bang on for a terrible day. 2 catches for 8 yards.
  • Start Thomas Jones: Not great but good enough: 77 yards 1 TD
