Frank Gore and Ronnie Brown are on vacation while you sweat over Ahmad Bradshaw or Larry Johnson to replace them. Here’s five players that could save the day.

David Garrard, QB, Jacksonville Jaguars

Garrard went from a hero to a zero in a matter of one week. After kicking some serious butt in week four, Garrard and the Jags got shut-out by Seattle in week five. You can count on him and the rest of the Jaguars bouncing back at home against the lowly Rams. Garrard is better than the performance he gave last week. Besides, his number two target, Torry Holt, will want to get back at his old team.

Brett Favre, QB, Minnesota Vikings

They tried easing him into things, but the Vikings were forced to unleash Favre by week three, and since then we’ve seen nothing but wins and magic. Baltimore is almost certainly going to do their best at shutting down Adrian Peterson, which will make Favre have to win or lose the game with his arm. Considering Brodie Croyle had decent success against this suspect Ravens pass defense, you have to like Favre’s chances.

LeSean McCoy, RB, Philadelpha Eagles

McCoy is splitting carries with Brian Westbrook full-time now, which means he’s guaranteed at least eight touches per game. While both McCoy and Westbrook heavily disappointed last week, he could be a nice bye-week fill-in as the Eagles face the Raiders, who couldn’t stop the run to save their lives.

Leon Washington, RB, New York Jets

Washington hasn’t topped 60 rushing yards or scored a touchdown all season, which puts the label “fantasy bust” directly on his forehead. However, if for only one week he could break-out and be a star, it might be this week.

The team he’s up against, the Buffalo Bills, can’t stop anyone who runs the ball, and even allowed Jamal Lewis to trudge his way to 117 yards. Yeah, Washington’s gonna be fine.

Donnie Avery, WR, St. Louis Rams

It’s hard to vouch for a guy who not only plays for the Rams, but also dances after he scores a touchdown when he’s still down by 21 points. Don’t hate Avery for being a jackass, though. Just look at his tasty match-up with Jacksonville’s awful secondary and throw him in your WR3 slot.

Other solid, slightly more obvious bye week (potential) saviors could be Bernard Berrian, Sidney Rice, Torry Holt, Ahmad Bradshaw, Jason Campbell, Matt Cassel, and Marcedes Lewis.

[adrotate group="19"]

Fantasy Football:

Start’em Sit’em Week 4

Start'em Sit'em

Fantasy Forecast

Gridiron Experts Start’em Sit’em Week 4 Most sites recycle imaginary fantasy numbers with yards and touchdowns and quick blurbs on how great Drew Brees or Adrian Peterson is going to do, but you already know that. We here at Gridiron Experts are not about to insult your fantasy football intelligence by posting the obvious numbers, instead we go out on a limb and try spotting great fantasy match-ups that many people might be overlooking. Star players will always perform, but key players can thrive in one week situations through either an offensive game plan or an excellent match-up. Our goal is to zone in on these perfect match-ups and offer advice that might make your life a little easier. It always comes down to you making the last minute call with your line-up, but hopefully we can help.

Start’em

Jay Cutler vs. the Lions

Detroit is all smiles for one week after an upset win over the Skins, but the Bears are gaining momentum and should be able to pick apart the relaxed Lions at home. Neither team is playing great football, but since the opener Cutler has been doing his best to regain control. It’s almost amazing how fast Cutler’s turn around has happened; we see a big day for number 6.

Cedric Benson vs. the Browns

The Browns run defense is terrible, and the Bengals are playing good all around football. Expect a couple turnovers from a much improved Bengals defensive unit to give Benson and company excellent field position. Remember, Derek Anderson is starting and he will be pressing in this game to showcase his skills as a starter. Benson is a safe start this week.

Addai or Donald Brown vs. the Seahawks

In a bind at RB? Why not start one of the combo Colts for a week? I know Peyton Manning is on fire, but the secondary for the Seahawks isn’t half bad, it’s the run defense that has the holes. Seattle is allowing an average of 5.6 yards per carry on the ground. Expect this game to feature a little more of the running attack as the Hawks will be backing off in fear of being burned deep.

Darren McFadden vs. the Texans

Forget the fumbles, the Texans are suffering against the run this season and McFadden is due. The Texans are allowing on average 205 yards per game against the run, and if Oakland has any sort of strategy it will be to Run DMC.

Brandon Marshall vs. the Cowboys

Marshall is growing up and is buying into the Broncos winning ways (I’m surprised too). Expect big numbers from many players in this game on both sides of the ball. Denver hasn’t been challenged by a tough opponent yet, and the media has said that this will be the ultimate test. Dallas is playing flat uninspired football; the Broncos will try to pounce on it. Good Fantasy Starter.

Glenn Coffee vs. the Rams

Up until now Coffee’s numbers as a back up haven’t been that great, but when opportunity knocks you have to suit up. Gore is out and the Rams stink against the run, Coffee is getting his big break. A late round sleeper that is about to pay off.

Sit’em

Ryan Grant vs. the Vikings

Monday night football will be a battle of the quarterbacks. The Vikings defense is allowing an average of only 92 yards per game on the ground and are one of only two teams that haven’t given up a rushing touchdown yet. Don’t do it, bad match up.

Marques Colston vs. the Jets

It’s hard enough trying to guess when to start Colston, as Brees loves to connect with everyone on the team, but this week makes things even harder. If the Jets can shut down top receivers week after week then Brees will spread it around even more. The Jets can’t stop one of the top fantasy quarterbacks in the game (wait what about Tom Brady), you can only slow him down. The Saints have a surprisingly good running game that will chew up some yards this weekend. But as far as a top receiver goes I expect to see Brees just hitting the open man, and it won’t be Colston.

T.J. Houshmandzadeh vs. the Colts

It’s not going to be pretty for whoever is starting at QB for the Seahawks. Yes, the Colts lost one of their top pass rushers (Dwight Freeney) for a couple weeks, but it won’t matter. The crowd noise along with an excellent secondary will throw the Seahawks for a loop. Housh is struggling with his new team and we’re predicting it will continue for one more game.

Steven Jackson vs the 49er’s

[adrotate group="18"]

We had mentioned that the Vikings are one of only two teams that haven’t allowed a rushing touchdown…well, the 49er’s are the other one. In fact, San Francisco’s rushing defense is one of the leagues best. The Rams are on the road, and while we know it’s hard to sit a top fantasy RB like Jackson, you’ve got to look at other options.

Fantasy Football:

Packers Rams Quick Preview

Green Bay Packers

St. Louis Rams

Fantasy Forecast

Green Bay Packers @ St. Louis Rams NFL Odds Makers: Current Line: Packers -6.5 What’s On The Line: The Green Bay Packers had an impressive win in Week 1 against the Chicago Bears and then quickly let the balloon deflate in Week 2 after losing at home to the Cincinnati Bengals. The Packers can’t afford to lose games in a row against teams perceived to be in the NFL’s basement. So far this year, the Packers defense has been decent but their offense, which was supposed to be one of the most explosive units in the NFL, has been a big letdown.

For the Rams, this is just another game. They would like to end their 12-game losing streak but for a franchise that’s won just five of their last 34 games, one win won’t mean much. They need a revolution. They put up a fight in Washington and another good performance in their home opener would give the indication that they are heading in the right direction. They could be in a tough spot this week, though.

Who Has The Edge:

The Packers Super Bowl odds flew up after they beat the Bears but now they are back to reality, so to speak, as they sit at 1-1. The good news is that they should be able to get their offense going this week.

Last week, the Rams offense let Jason Campbell complete 66% of his passes for 242 yards, which is a good sign for the Packers Aaron Rodgers and his plethora of wideouts.

One of the biggest weakness for the Packers this year has been the offensive line, which has given up 10 sacks in just two games. The good news for them is that the St. Louis Rams aren’t exactly a high-pressure offense, so Rodgers should have more time to throw this week. Also, don’t be surprised if running back Ryan Grant finally gets his first 100-yard rushing game this week.

The football odds have the Rams as a home underdog mostly because they haven’t been able to accomplish anything through the air with their offense. Everyone knows that Steven Jackson is a fantastic weapon on the ground but Marc Bulger looks like a shadow of his former self. Bulger has completed just 50% of his passes this year and has a quarterback rating of 69.5.

Overall, the Packers are going to score and the Rams are going to have problems doing so. Look for the Packers to make a big statement as they win in a romp at the Edward Jones Dome in St. Louis.

Stats

-GB has covered last three and 25 of last 40 games against NFC West opponents

-GB has covered seven of last 10 September games

-STL is 7-14 in last 21 as an underdog of 3.5 to 9.5 poitns

-STL is 1-9 against the spread in last 10 September games

NFL Predictions

Fantasy Football:

Fantasy Football: Waiver Watch

Player Profiles

Fantasy Forecast

Waiver Wire

Fantasy Football: Waiver Watch Not a lot to choose from after only one week of action, but here are a few notes to go along with guys floating on the waiver wire: Mario Manningham - WR, New York Giants The Giants started in a two-receiver, two-tight end set in Sunday’s opener, with Mario Manningham at flanker and Domenik Hixon at split end. A mix of great speed, hands, and elusiveness will afford him a ton of action this season. It is likely Knowsean will start for the Broncos, although it is difficult to tell with the massive rotation they currently own. Even if Knowsean does not take the number one spot on the depth chart, he will still be able to produce at a high level due to his overall ability with the ball, similar to Matt Forte.
Our projections: 159 rush attempts, 693 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 29 receptions, 297 yards, 2 touchdowns.

WR-Michael Crabtree: This former Texas Tech star is simply the best wide receiver in this class. This draft may not have a 1,000 yard receiver, but we believe Crabtree is the most likely to come near or surpass these lofty numbers.
Our projections: 91 targets, 61 receptions, 839 yards, 5 touchdowns.
RB-Chris “Beanie” Wells: Beanie may be the only true starting rookie running back this season come week 1. With Edgerrin James out of the picture Beanie is only competing with Tim Hightower, who is by reputation more of a short yardage back. Providing he stays healthy, Beanie should have a productive season.
Our projections: 187 rush attempts, 721 yards, 5 touchdowns, 10 receptions, 80 yards, zero touchdowns.

WR-Jeremy Maclin: A deadly talent, thought by some to be the best receiver in this class. Maclin is joining and completing the strongest core of receivers in Philadelphia for quite some time. Likely the number three man behind Curtis and Jackson, Maclin should see his fair share of targets due to Donovan McNabb’s reluctance to focus in on one receiver.
Our projections: 59 targets, 36 receptions, 528 yards, 4 touchdowns.

RB-Donald Brown: In the past two seasons Joseph Addai has been stellar, but has also shown that he is at his best when there is another running back to ease the load. Donald Brown will be that man to spell Addai, he will without a doubt be the most valuable handcuff in the league. And if Addai goes down once again, Brown could be primed for a big season in this offense.
Our projections: 163 rush attempts, 708 yards, 3 touchdowns, 21 receptions 117 yards, 1 touchdown.

Fantasy Football:

Fantasy Forecast Week 16

Start'em Sit'em

Fantasy Forecast

Fantasy Forecast Week 16 Don’t lose sleep over line-up decisions in your fantasy playoffs. With no one in the crowd, it’s hard to call this a road game for the Saints. Drew Brees should run up the score just for the fun of it. Missing the playoffs is a bummer, but throwing for 400 yards might put a smile on his face, and yours. Fantasy Tip – if you’re ever wondering how the game will go as far as points scored, always refer to the Over/Under. The OU is 40 with Miami as 4 point favorites, so Vegas sees something like a 21-17 Miami win. Ronnie Brown and company might be putting up numbers, but not the ones you’re used to.
Fantasy Stud: Chad Pennington, Larry Johnson, Ronnie Brown
Fantasy Dud: Ricky Williams is also a fullback now in the fantasy world
Fantasy Sleeper: Tony Gonzalez- has been a monster the last couple games

Green Bay at Chicago
Fantasy Stud: Matt Forte, Greg Jennings, Kyle Orton
Fantasy Dud: Aaron Rodgers- can he play in the cold? Well, they’re both divisional games, so that’s something. Romeo Crennel and Mike Singeltary are trying to hang on to their jobs, so they’re not about to try out a rookie at WR or RB. But all in all, if you are relying on a guy to win your fantasy pool that is playing in these two games, be warned. I wouldn’t expect huge numbers from anyone with the exception of Shaun Hill and Frank Gore.

Pittsburgh at Tennessee
Fantasy Stud: Chris Johnson- they’ll still be able to move the ball
Fantasy Dud: Kerry Collins and Willie Parker
Fantasy Sleeper: LenDale White- when they score, it’ll be a goal line smashing TD.

Arizona at New England- Well, we called it in our Fantasy Preview, and we also picked the Vikings last week in a blow out; the Cardinals are going down. Arizona has bad match ups, and no matter how well Warner and his WR’s have been playing this season, it’s only going to translate into an early playoff exit. This week they head to New England to play in a very cold game that is out of character for this dome team. Jon Gruden is too good of a coach to have his team lose two in a row to divisional rivals. No brainer here.

San Diego at Kansas City- Both teams are out of the playoffs, but that doesn’t mean they won’t get geared up for a divisional game. Well, we know the Vikings will after the Bears won on Thursday, but will the Cardinals mail it in? The other scenario is the Broncos play strong and surprise Carolina, as they have taken early leads in wins against such top teams as the Jets, Bucs, and Falcons. Gridiron Experts predicts the top fantasy studs and duds, and even gives a sleeper player that you might not be looking at.

Oakland at San Diego- A year ago people would be expecting big numbers from LT and Gates at home vs. the Raiders, but this year fantasy owners would be happy with a touchdown. Thursday’s game might not be what you’re expecting; with a loss at home to the Falcons last week and the Broncos upset over the Jets, the San Diego Chargers season is over. Although there is a long shot chance to still make the playoffs, this game will be for their fans. Every one of the Chargers losses have been by 7 points or less.
Fantasy Stud: LT…it’s about time!
Fantasy Dud: Antonio Gates
Sleeper: Zach Miller (TE)

Washington at Baltimore- The Ravens have only given up 3 rushing TD’s this season and have one of the top defenses in the league. Don’t worry about your Dolphin players; the cold won’t slow them down. The Bills are a hard team to figure out; with the 10-3 loss last week to the 49ers it’s hard to want to start anyone on the Bills. However, last week Eli Manning played as if he hadn’t lost a thing, throwing to Domenik Hixon 5 times for 71 yards.
Fantasy Stud: Brian Westbrook, Eli Manning, & McNabb- this should be another shoot out (last meeting 36-31).
Fantasy Dud: hard to find one in what could be a high scoring game.
Sleeper: Domenik Hixon

Houston at Green Bay- Another potential shoot out; unless it snows, this game will be great for fantasy players.

Home Team Demolition:
Cleveland at Tennessee
Cincinnati at Indianapolis
Kansas City at Denver
St. Louis at Arizona

No brainers across the board here. Gridiron Experts will take a look at which players could make or break your fantasy playoff run. Last year, the New York Giants got hot at the right time, and it carried over into the playoffs. In fantasy football, players on teams fighting for playoff berths can make for great sleepers, and can sometimes make the difference against tough playoff matchups.

Most people look at match-ups, thinking that a game against the Detroit Lions or Oakland Raiders means huge fantasy numbers. The truth is a tough divisional match-up or a must-win game can sometimes result in bigger numbers, as both teams are geared up and playing for more important things than just padding their stats. A running back will always see carries, so never overlook a good match-up; conversely, quarterbacks and receivers don’t see a lot of action in a blow out win, as coaches tend to lean on a heavy running game to drain the clock. Expect teams like Tennessee and the NY Giants to allow back up players to see more carries and catches, as they will want to prepare for the playoffs around weeks 14 through 17.

Bring on the spoilers! While fans hang their heads as teams start to become eliminated from playoffs, star fantasy players take this opportunity to catch the eye of general managers for a pay raise or change of scenery. No one wants to get canned, and the final four weeks of the season for certain players can be the difference between coming back or getting the bags packed.

Players that might turn it on:

Aaron Rodgers and receiving core – The Packers are 1-2 since coming off their bye week, but played hard in losses to the Vikings and Titans. In fact, we had the Packers upsetting the mighty Titans, but an overtime coin flip lost that one for them. The main reason why Rodgers and Jennings could get hot in the next couple of weeks is the confidence that this “rookie” quarterback has developed; no one wants Favre back, and the comparisons have stopped. Rodgers can finally just play ball.

Matt Cassel- Each week this guy seems to improve, and with such a tight race in the AFC East every game will need Cassel to make plays. Moss was a monster last year but hasn’t been able to connect yet with his new QB; be patient, 81 could be the guy who wins you your fantasy pool. Matched up against ordinary secondaries in the final four weeks, expect the deep bomb pass to make an appearance.

The Cowboys – When healthy, this team has a pro bowl starting offense. The finger-thing is over, and in the next few weeks this team will rebound in the offensive department. The best part fantasy-wise is that the Cowboys defense is a joke, and every game could involve a shoot out

The Eagles – Don’t laugh, I know things look bleak, but this team has too much talent to go belly up. Andy and Donovan are in hot water but will work it out. This team went 3-0 to finish the season last year, even though they had little to no chance of making the playoffs.

Quinn and the Cleve – Brady Quinn has arrived, and has added new life to these fantasy players. Win or lose, players like Braylon Edwards, K2, and Jamal Lewis will continue to put up numbers.

Needs improvement:

LT and the Chargers – The holes are just not there for LT anymore, it may be this new style of offense that uses a one back system instead of a fullback. Last year LT had Lorenzo Neal creating space for him. If LT can get a handle on this new style, or if the coaching staff can find a lead blocker, LT could regain his power status, but until then he’s just going to kill people’s fantasy hopes.

Warner and the Cardinals – I know things are going well now, but if you have players on this team cross your fingers. The Cards and legendary for choking, and being in such a joke of division, this team might not be as great as you think. Why would they get into a shoot out if they can lock up the division? If Warner goes down, so does this team; I can see them starting Matt Leinart and resting Warner if Arizona clinches by week 15.

Matt Forte – I could be wrong, but Forte might hit the rookie wall soon.

Ben Roethlisberger – The final four teams the Steelers face are: Dallas, at Baltimore, at Tennessee, and Cleveland. I know I said not to bench a player based on one bad match-up, but this is four bad match-ups, and I just don’t have faith in that o-line.

Fantasy Football:
