Speed Kills
Speed Kills
Si.com features two new faces on the cover this week, both of whom have the ability to change the game. Darren Sproles is 5’6″ 181 lbs, DeSean Jackson is 5’10″ 175 lbs. Both are lightning fast, and are huge weapons for their team’s success this weekend.
With LaDainian Tomlinson on the shelf with a groin injury, and possibly nearing the end of his amazing career, Darren Sproles has emerged at the perfect time. Last week Darren Sproles racked up 328 all-purpose yards with 2 touchdowns in a Chargers victory at home against the Colts, moving forward in the playoffs. While Pittsburgh’s defense has a little more prowess, there is a lot to be said about breakaway speed. If the Chargers can get this guy in the open field, their chances of winning could drastically improve.
DeSean Jackson didn’t have the same sort of day that Darren Sproles did. In a tight defensive game Jackson really only made two plays, but they were two big plays. The speedy receiver had a 62 yard punt return that set up an important field goal, and then later caught a 34 yard pass that set up another David Akers kick. On a team with a need for a number one receiver, this rookie from Cal has been a bright spot for McNabb all year. While some say it takes time to learn the West Coast offense, DeSean Jackson has done quite well in Andy Reid’s system.
