NFL Throwback Throwdown

NFL Throwback Throwdownthrowback

Throwback jerseys used to be a big hit in the emerging days of Mitchell and Ness, now however it seems they have faded into obscurity. The occasional sighting of a 1985 Eric Dickerson L.A. Rams jersey limited edition 6 of 150 is still cool, but what’s with all of the throwbacks this year?

Especially considering 90% of them look like dirt with names and numbers scribbled on jersey colors that don’t match the team we know and remember. Broncos should be blue or orange…but their throwback is yellow and brown; the designer must do all of his thinking on the john.

2009 marks the 50th anniversary for the AFL’s original eight charter members: the Boston Patriots now New England, the Buffalo Bills, the Dallas Texans now Kansas City Chiefs, the Denver Broncos, the Houston Oilers now Tennessee Titans, the L.A. Chargers now San Diego, the Titans of New York now the Jets, and the Oakland Raiders.

To mark this momentous occasion the NFL has set up a number of legacy match-ups this season where these teams face off. To keep in fashion with this occasion, the teams have been wearing and will continue to wear their 50th anniversary uni’s. Categorizing these jerseys is quite difficult as one can only describe them as ugly and uglier. So a playoff has been set up to determine the best of the worst of the 50th anniversary jerseys.

The divisional match-ups

Patriots vs. Broncos: There’s no way that yellow & brown is making it past the 1st round.

Bills vs. Chiefs: Bills prevail with one of the nicer jerseys in this contest.

Raiders vs. Chargers: The powder blue doesn’t succeed here; Al Davis finally makes a good investment.

Jets vs. Titans: This Jets jersey is worse than Mark Sanchez’s moustache.

Conference Championships

Bills vs. Patriots: Both teams are representing the nation’s colors, only one isn’t an eyesore; Bills prevail.

Raiders vs. Titans: Titans get sucked into the black hole, no chance.

Jersey Bowl

Raiders vs. Bills: The Raiders finally win something! Congratulations Oakland.
