NFL Draft Player Profile:Demaryius Thomas

Demaryius Thomas Player Profile
As a 6 foot 3, 235 pound wide receiver coming out of Georgia Tech, it’s difficult not to draw comparisons to Calvin Johnson, but for now the name won’t be mentioned as Thomas may have what it takes to emerge from behind the consummate pro’s shadow.

In a relatively simple run oriented scheme Thomas hasn’t recorded stellar numbers over his career although we can shoulder some of that load on the system. Through his past two seasons Thomas is the only player on Georgia Tech to record more than 10 receptions in a season (46,39 receptions) everyone else was lucky to have 5-6 catches. Thankfully for him, this past year the team opted to take more advantage of his talent; Thomas hauled in 46 passes for 1,154 yards and 8 touchdowns.

The system he played in college required that Thomas blocked on most downs, naturally due to this he’s well ahead of the competition in the blocking department than most WR’s in the nation. On the other hand this emphasis on blocking has resulted in a lack of an ability to run crisp routes, something Thomas must drastically improve upon to succeed.

Thomas’ size provides him a unique skill set. His immense strides afford him the opportunity to reach top speed rather quickly. While it goes without saying that he can out jump most if not all defenders.  Insanely big hands allow him to do his best “stick-um” impression. And his strength naturally makes him frightening to bring to the ground.

Due to playing in a non pro-style offense Thomas’ value is not as high as it could be. If he were playing on a team that displayed his talents for his entire career you can rest assured he would be near the top of this draft class. That being said, Demaryius Thomas is a steal for whoever selects him in this upcoming draft as he is likely to fall to the end of the 2nd round.

looks great!! but bad news here: demaryius-thomas-breaks-his-foot/

  1. TJ says:

He just broke his foot. Gonna hurt his stock, but he should still get drafted as he has all the intangibles to perform well at the next level.
